I prefer my Colt Government Model .45. I may only have 7 rds, but I only need 1! And it shoots oh so well after I did a little tuning.

The Glocks are polymer pistols, the 1911 styles are all metal. But the 1911 is considered to be the gold standard for pistols. Take a look in pretty much any serious hangun enthusiast's gunsafe (or nightstand, or the right side of his belt), and I'll take long odds there's at least one 1911.

I have been looking at Kimbers I think that will be my next 1911. What I really would like is to have Wilson Combat Build customize mine, but $$$$ is a problem. As far as Glocks vs. 1911 if I had to carry one all day defiantly a glock but for target shooting you cant beat a 1911.

good link jmartin. I've got a g23c myself. i knew these guns were tough and could take some torture, but never seen any torture tests like that. great tests.

people complain about the glock not having an external safety. the way I see it, its not much of a concern. I keep a round in the chamber at all times and keep it holstered. if its holstered, its not going to go off. on top of that, when a round is in the chamber, the firing pin spring is not compressed. the firing pin spring doesn't compress until you start pulling the trigger so you don't have to worry about the gun going off if you drop or throw it, just when you pull the trigger.

its said to have dual safeties, the trigger, and then again the fact that the firing pin spring doesn't compress until you start to pull the trigger.

i have owned a couple glocks i am not a fan..while i own several 45 acps inculding 4 colts. glocks i loath they don't balance in my hands.. a colt govt balances nicely for me but my personal favorite auto is a "star" ultrastar in 40 cal funtion is flawless it has the poly grip and frame but a steel slide. though it only has a 3.5" barrel it flat balances very well.

if you are looking for a decent gun at a decent price my go to choices are very easy tarus,cz,hi-point in THAT order..

tnfisherman that is the reason i want a 9mm. less recoil. a .45 or .40 cal will knock him down and blow a huge hole in him....IF you can hold it down. a 9mm i can hold and unload on the fool. that i sthe main reason i want a 9mm, less recoil.

kel-tec makes a nice little inexpensive auto makes for a great backup gun, as for hi-point been there, done that and got the T-shirt. shoot good, but man they are just plain Fugly. Cz dont know alot about there pistols but they make the nicest over/under shotgun I have ever seen in the 1200.00 range. Never heard of Star but I will take your word on it. After my 1911 my next go to would haft to be a Sig Saur or pro 2240 both nice. BTW.... Stay away from the Glock 23c low recoil (compinsated) to expinsive to plink with

jmartin, you're saying a glock g23c is too expensive, but you're looking at 1911's and Sig Saur? What's up with that?

you can a new glock for around 500 here ,,,then you covert a 40 and 357 sig into a 9mm by using a 9mm barrel and mag,,,then you can buy a .22lr silde for it

No No No what I was meaning that the round 357 Sig is about double the price of 45 ACP or 40 S&W. Price of gun isnt the problem but the cost oof ammo
