Conecting light line, to heavy line?

So yesterday I was fishing, and missed a really good fish! I was fishing a 1/8 oz shaky head in clear cold (50's, 60's) water. And I know the fish get finicky in conditions like this. So I took my 12lb Pline cxx (about 17lb dia.), and tied a uni to uni knot to 8lb floroclear leader. So I set the hook, and I see a big green flash, and a feel a big head toss, and than my line goes limp. I reel up and the knot had bust.

Only thing I can really think of that's stronger, is to go all out with a bimini twist. but as you may know, it's not really something that's to easy to tie and takes a good bit of time. So what your favourite knots for something this?

When ever the diameter is different, I go with an albright. It can be a pain to learn, but it was designed for attaching two lines of different diameter.

Try a blood knot. I've used it for leaders with good success and it's pretty easy to tie. Your 12# cxx isn't 17# diameter, it's pretty much on par with other 12# lines. This website has pretty cool animated illustrations of knots.

(Edit) I think the blood knot is for lines of similar diameter, so it might not work well for this application. Still a good knot to know though.

BB, I also use the albright when attaching my mono filler to my top side braid. I have never fished with leaders though. I would be careful choosing a knot with flouro though. It seems to like to kink and get weak quick. It could of happened while tying the knot?

You could always use a swivel to separate the lines and use a longer leader...I typically do this with two improved clinch knots or palomar..and no, the swivel won't spook the fish

I never have much trouble with a Double Uni. Try the Blood knot or the albright special though (both can be a pain to tie though). You have to be VERY meticulous with how you tie the albright special or it will just come undone while tightening it.

I use the albright most of the time when tying two ends of line together. I haven't ever tried using a leader on my shaky head rods though.

I would say if you were using a leader that's at least 2-3 ft long just go with a swivel.

Then again you could just spool up with flouro when you know you're going to be using a shaky head (If you're not too worried about wasting line).

When I can hold my mouth right while tying it, the Albright has worked well for me. Although, I've used the double uni knot for this purpose without much trouble too.
