Default Carpet to use on bunks

Hey everyone. I am currently working on a new (to me) boat and trailer combo. For my bunks on the trailer I know I need to use outdoor carpet but my question is, will any type work? It has the standard black (I think olefin), kind of astro turf type stuff now but all I can find locally is thicker stuff (almost commercial looking carpet. Think of the thin stuff you have seen in just about every department store). I am painting the boat as well and wanted to be sure I wasn't scratching my new paint job up. Any thoughts?

The major outdoor stores like BPS, Cabela's, etc. carry marine carpet - same carpet for bunks that's used on decks. You'll probably want something in a 20 oz. class of carpet.

You have a few options. You can go to someplace like Bass Pro Shops and get it already cut to fit the bunks, but if you don't have a BPS or Cabelas close by you can get the same type carpet at Lowes. I had to replace mine a year or so back and Lowes had what I needed.

Thumbs up

Replaced mine last summer. Got it from Home Depot. Worked fine. On the flat area's above the tail lights, in front and behind the wheels, I put aluminum diamond plate flat metal. Really makes the trailer look good. Alot better than carpet.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will definitely check all those options to see what I can find. Just wanted to be sure I didn't rub my new paint job off the boat. I'll keep you updated on what I find. I should have been taking pics of this remodel. The boat end of things is pretty much a complete overhaul. Was a hull that turned over on the road. I have more time than sense so Ive been working it back up. (But hey it was free!!lol.) Maybe I can still get a pic now(with all Ive already done) and then a completion pic.
