Default Who Says Cold Weather Fishing isnt fun?

Posted this in the Maryland Fishing Reports but thought I'd post it over here as well. People thought I was nuts for going out fishing after work at around 3:30pm when half the pond was under ice, there was 3 inches of snow on the ground, the air temp never got above 45 degrees, and the water temp was 40 if that. I only caught this one fish but had a grin plastered on my face the entire day.

Quote:
Took some advice from Kevin Van Dam and for the cold water threw a white spinnerbait from Booyah baits with one silver blade and one copper blade. Cast it on my 6'6" Abu Garcia/Berkley baitcaster combo from Dick's Sporting goods on 14 pound Trilene Monofiliment at a 45 degree angle to my right about 45 yards out. Let the spinner sink to the bottom and then slow rolled it back. On the 4th cast out, the line stopped after about 20 feet and I set the hook and then nothing for about 2 seconds. I thought I had slow rolled into a submerged branch but all of a sudden my line took off for the shoreline. After a good fight of about a minute or so I landed this beauty. 4 pounds 13 ounces and one hell of a fight. Not bad for a small neighborhood pond with about 3 inches of snow on the bank and the other half of the pond covered with ice and the rest of the water around 40 degrees. Can't wait to hit this place again when the weather warms up. Sorry for the rambling but I'm just so excited.

Now come on I do believe you said you were from Va. Has it been that long. BTW.... I am jealous of your year around warm weather. LOL

Good catch. Forgot I even had one of them in my tackle box. Thought I had moved to entirely Booyah, but I guess that one gets to stay

Went out again today and used the same combo of rod/reel and spinnerbait. Ended up with a 1.5 pounder on my 2nd cast and a just over 3.5 pounder just as I started to get tired. It wasn't quite Cold Weather fishing however as today and the next few days are in the 60s and 70s. Then back down to 30-40 degrees next week. Gotta love Maryland weather lol.
