Crappie?

I have never really tried for crappie but are there any special lures or baits that will help me catch some this summer?

I really like the good ole minner under a bobber fished in sunken trees and pads.

The simple answer is no, they will hit almost anything if you find a school. One thing that I've noticed catching more than most other things is a 2" curly tail grub on a 1/16oz. jighead. I suggest you go to walmart and buy several different colors of "Panfish Assasin" grubs with matching jigheads and give 'em a try. White and chartruese work best most of the time but, always have orange, black, and gold for backup when they're hittin' kinda slow. Also invest in some small jigging spoons for deeper schools.

Look for crappie on sunken timber and other structure near the shore in warm water (+50F). Look for them to be schooled up at 10-20 feet in cool water (-50F).

I have always done well with the 2inch twister spin. The green with a black stripe is my favorite, but other colors have worked well too. Get a variety and see which is right for your body of water. A friend of mine is a crappie junkie, and he mainly uses bait, such as monnows, small worms, or a small craappie jig tipped with bee moths. The biggest crappie I ever saw was caught by my brother in Florida. I could have shot him when he unhooked it and tossed it back into the water before weighing it. To this day I think it could easily have been a state record. Anyways, he caught that on a 5 1/2 inch jointed minnow lure.

first and foremost,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,start fishing this spring..not this summer. Don't know what your water temp is there, but we're only a few weeks from spawning here....The bite is on right now... my freezer is getting low, so I might go catch a few more next weekend. The trick on crappie is finding them,,not catching them. Your best bet is follow creeks to the flats as the water temp rises. look for structure alone the creek channel: trees, docks, etc. Good Luck!

you can buy "crappie jigs", small spinner baits, and use the old tried and true minnow. with or with out the float. personaly i like to use minnows without the float. just set out a couple of rods and do what we always called drift fishing. just drift over the main channels, back and forth. they are great eating fish. tastes fantastic.

Dat's about it...

I also like to troll the channels with spoons and shallow diving Rapalas. This really seemed to be the ticket for me last year.

early is better than summer for the fat ones.. i can catch them in the summer with a floating light late at night..

Ive always used the beetle spin. Usually hook the kids up with these and let them have fun.

A jig head and a curly tail grub have worked the best for me. But I have had them hit a DT-4 and just about any other lures, including a jitterbug.

They are fun to catch and excellent for kids (as stated earlier). I caught a 1LB 5 oz crappie last Saturday, one of the bigger ones I have ever caught, thought it was a Bass. I took my wife's nephew out there and we each caught about 13, and he had a blast.

Pepper spoons in the early spring. My best friend as a kid invented them. His name was Fish'N Frank Finson. When your serious about catching some big crappie the size of a smallmouth let me no i'll rush them to yeahh.

There very very small minature slab spoons. There are silver,White & Chartruse. I have to get over & check prices. But they use to be pretty cheap.

Oh, I was hoping you were offering to feed us some crappie with the question mark at the end

. They are my favorite fish to eat. Here in Wisconsin everyone favors the walleye, but I beg to differ.

I've caught them on everything that everyone has mentioned. However, I have the best luck getting them on a little jig tipped with a Gulp! maggot under a slip bobber.

Crappie jigs, live minnows, and small beetlespins are all good for catching crappie. You can find the beetlespins at Walmart, get the small and next to small sizes and reel very slow. It's getting close to that time of year and they taste gr8!! Good luck!

Walleye are'nt panfish!!! If i still lived in wisconsin. I'd go for the perch or whitefish

I saw this on a show once.

Get a bobber, medium size, use about a 2 foot leader. Attach a hook to the bottom of the lure, and use Berkley Alive earth worms. Twitch your rod a couple of times, now and then, this technique should work. it has worked for me.
