Green finned Bowfin
I caught a Bowfin in one of the ponds I fish and I don't recall ever seeing one with colors like this little guy. He ate a 10" lizard too. I wonder if they are spawning and that has something to do with the green color. I don't know . Cool looking though.

We call them a choupique, and yes the green color is when they spawn. I love to catch them because of their fighting ability.

I caught one of those 3 springs ago. At the time I wasn't 100% sure what it was since I had just started fishing in MI and didn't have them in the ponds I used to fish in Indiana and Ohio, not that I had ever caught anyway. They are pretty strange looking.

it is a strike eye pnj -same as on a peacock bass- predatory fish or birds would hit the tail -some thing that would grow back- not a fatlal strike to the head..

Man those things fight like crazy for sure. Especially if you get a big one. Here's a picture of one I caught ealier this year in the same pond. It probably weighed 7-8 lbs. I caught one in the pond behind this one that weighed 9.7 lbs. That's was an AWESOME fight! They are nasty though.

Bowfin are great to catch... very strong fighters, vicious strikers... not bad looking...
I don't see why people hate them so much, (probably because they're annoying @ tourneys, when you have to only catch bass). a great gamefish. sp
