Part II Fluorocarbon Test
Here's a link the the second phase of the fluorocarbon line test. Part one was posted on here a while back. Interesting reports. I've started fishing P-Line FluoroClear lately and it is becoming my line of choice. Just thought I'd pass this on for those interested.

BA, Floroclear has been my choice for crankbaiting ever since Flyrod had me try it.

Hey Reb, does that line work well on baitcasters? Just wondering because my crank rod needs some fresh winch on 'er. Does it curl much or frey, etc.?

Lunker,
You will like that line a lot. Especially for cranking. I don't have much problem at all with memory. It's pretty abrasion resistant too. I have it on several baitcasting reels and it casts great. Definately worth buying a spool in my opinion! Reb, Do you use it for jigs, worms, spinnerbaits,... ? I started using it on my jig and worm rods in my last tournament and like it for that too. I was using 20 lb. line and fishing cypress trees and an old barge and it did well. I'm starting to use it for just about everything. Eric |

P-Line Fluoroclear
I tried P-Line a couple of years ago and haven't used anything since. Just ordered some for this season. It is plenty strong and casts so smooth. I would recommend it to anyone.

Has anyone used a backer to offset the cost of flurocarbon? I've sucessfully used a mono backer.

I was going to try BPS fluorocarbon this year. Has anybody tried it, if so how did it work for you? I was going to go with 17lbs. Thanks.

I love the Halo, but at $17.99 for a filler spool it does get expensive. Maybe I will try to back it; thanks for the idea basschick.

I like it a lot. I use the 17 lb for t-rigs and jigs and 10 lb for cranking. It's one of the best for the price in my opinion.

BA,
What type of ratio do you use? Mono to Braid or Mono to Fluro? |

I don't know if I answered your question but I change line a lot depending on where I'm fishing and if money is involved! My first tournament is in March and is on a mostly clear lake and I'll have Fluoro line on all my reels. |

I'm sorry BA. How many yards (approx) do you put on of mono as a backing to how many yards of braid or fluoro?

Generally, you would only need about 80 yards of good, casting line. If you had a 100 yard spool, 20-30 yards of backing would be plenty. I like using this method, though some just like to cover the spool with monofilament. Just enough as to where you cannot see it.

I will fill my spool with enough mono so that I can put about 50-60 yards of either braid or Flouro on. For my cranks I will put a little less mono so I can get about 70-80 yards of Flouro on. I'll make longer casts with the cranks. I don't have anything that counts the yards of line I'm putting on so I just guess. As long as I don't get into the backing on a cast I know I have enough line on. Hope this helps.
