Follow Up To WTL's Thread About Board Basics
Hi Guys,
I've been reading through WTL's recent post about board basics, and thought I would add something that I believe will enhance the discussions here on the forums. We've been extremely lucky to maintain a great forum without too much moderation, however, I've observed times a thread will stray off topic.. and I've tended to overlook this. As our forums grow with each passing day, we want to continue to improve the discussions here and make sure everyone who asks questions or shares something on the forum, receives responses that are pertinent and of value. WTL's comment was timely, because for a while now I have been thinking about taking a more active role in the management of the content in our forums. So from time to time, you may find me posting helpful notices to members who may hijack/stray from the topic or post things (ie. fishing reports) in incorrect areas. We have a great bunch of participants... we're just going to try to improve the flow of information. It would please me a lot to see more than a simple one-liner posted in response to a thread. Let's not forget that there are people that want to really tap into everyone's knowledge, versus reading a bunch of one-liners that don't really advance the conversation. Thanks for the making this the great site it is. Kevin |

May I take the liberty of adding to the basics?
1. Be specific in your subject line. Avoid such subjects as "Help" and don't be cute with teasers, hoping for more reads, like "What do you think about..." 2. Unproven theories, opinions, gut feelings and the like are fine, just label them as such. Don't state opinions as facts. 3. Proofread before you post. Not everyone has to be a perfect speller or grammar expert, but look at what you've typed and correct the obvious errors to make it easier on your readers.

so can we ask questions that are kind of related to the topic thread?
so if its about how to fish a shaky head, can we ask farther down what their favorite worm is?

Kevin I agree. I know I, and most people I think, have strayed off topic at least a couple times, but I'll try to keep it on topic more.
Also, I like the new Fishing reports system, but I think you should bring back the old forum section as well. I don't mean get rid of the new one, that one's cool. But I think people would like to put their fishing reports on the forum as well. You could maybe put the link to the Fishing Reports as a sticky at the top of the forum. BB

I'm going to throw my $.02 in here, also.
You can edit your post, even after you've posted it, by clicking on the "Edit" button at the bottom right corner of the post. If you forget something, see a misspelling you didn't catch, or whatever, the "edit" button will let you fix it. That way, you're not making 2 posts about the same thing. I'm not picking on anybody, so nobody get your back up. This will just make the forums a little more "streamlined" and easier to read. Off my soapbox now...
