Winter Fishing A pond after a 2 week warm front
Well it looks like i get another chance at catching a bass until it warms up for good We've had a warm front for a week or two, the pond officially is not frozen at all now, and has been like this for maybe 2-3 days. I havent gone to check the ponds out yet but i know they are all melted and the level is high. I think im going to fish the shallowest one because it's all carp, pike and bass and a couple very small minnows and bluegills. Im going to try to fish it, the pond probably tops out at 5 feet deep so i'll be wading i think. I have my tacklebox list for you guys to choose from for what i should use.
Setup: Ugly Stick Lite, Shimano Spinning reel, stren 8lb test. Soft Plastics 4 Inch senkos in watermelon with black flake 4 inch senkos in watermelon with black and red flakes. Zoom Baby Brush hogs In Pumpkin Color Mister twister sassy shads in alot of different colors and sizes Mister Twister Original Grubs in a couple colors A couple non-scented ribbontail worms Some random purple and red thing called The Worm that is pre-rigged w/ rasberry scent....it was a stocking stuffer! Other Stuff- Black and silver Jointed Rapala in smallest size 2 Rapala Skitter Walks, In Black and silver and baby bass colors 1 Lucky Craft Sammy In a black and silverish color... 1 small chautreuse spinner bait 1 Rapala Husky Jerk In Shad Color 5 Rapala DT-4 Crankbaits in Bluegill, Shad, Hot Mustard, Black and Silver, Baby bass 1 Mepps spinner with dressed hook 1 Very Small Dardevle spoon in yellow and red 1 small jitterbug 1 Rattlin Rap in a brown color. uh nothing that comes to mind...the dt-4 ones go to 4 feet so i guess they would bounce. The floating jointed minnows that go to like 1 foot down worked best in the fall...

You're not going to find any bass in January that will hit a top water or a crankbait, my suggestion is to throw out deep something small like a worm or jig, and keep it slow.

wow dissapointing. I took your guy's advice and my brother and i went over to the ponds because it started to snow about an hour ago, and the pond froze over! Seeing some half melted holes drilled in it mustve never completely melted, big portions of the outer part of the pond was melted and i could see ripples on top of the water so i started throwing a senko in and after about 3 casts my line was all tangled with the reel. Since it's my first time using my new reel i think i put too much line on...left after that because i couldnt get a not because of the wind...back to the stream for the steelhead that ran up in the warmfront i guess....
