Lipless Crankbaits.....One Knocker Vs. Rattles
I'm looking to add a Lipless crank or two to my collection, and I'm wondering what your opinions on "one knocker" cranks vs. multiple rattle cranks are.
I'm leaning toward getting a Clacking Rap, but I don't feel like I'm educated enough to decide on one. |

Here's the theory...
Fish that are repeatedly caught and released can get conditioned to rattle baits, especially in smaller reservoirs. The one knocker type bait is just a version on the traditional bait, meant to overcome this problem. Garry2R's |

IN salt water it is the general rule that clear water calls for low frequency single clackers like the clackin rap and stained water calls for high frequency multiple bead rattlin baits like Rat'L'Trap...

+2 on the Clackin' Rap. I have 5 or 6 brands of lipless baits and the poorest producer is the Clakin' Rap. About my favorite is the Xcaliber lipless bait. Lucky Craft, Diawa, Koppers, Rattletrap, and Red Eye Shad also in my box, but the Xcaliber is the top gun for me.

Lipless baits have been a big producer for me this year. I have had the most success with H20 Express, Redeye Shad and XCalibur Xr50.

Did good with sexy shads earlier in the year. One channel cat on them this summer. Might have to try the one knocker.

My favorite lipless bait
I have an old (20yr) Cotton Cordel SUSPENDING Rattlespot: It is KILLER for shallow ( <8ft) depths, particularly along weed edges. Sinks s-l-o-w w/flouro line and rises s-l-o-w with mono. Great for everything from stop and go to burning across submurged weeds.
Can't find suspending lipless rattlebaits any more. Would have bought another 4 or 5 of them, if I had known I couldn't replace it. Anyone else seen any for sale anywhere? |

Clackn raps and Rat'l traps are both hitting for me right now...The biggest key for me has been letting them sink and burning them back lately.

I like the Redeye Shad, would be great if they would make them so the finish stayed nice, but they def. produce.

I love the Clackin' Raps! First time i used one was last year on an awesome smallie lake and i was hammering 'em all day, until i forgot to re-tie and lost it on a cast. I didn't have another one with me so i had to tie on a rattletrap in the same color and didn't catch 1 fish with it. I have been using them ever since with pretty good luck, some days way better than others.

A chrome/blue back Rat-L-Trap, but I ALWAYS change the hooks. The stock hooks on a trap are about as sharp as a Q-tip. I also have had a lot of success with the Smokey Joe color.

I throw both the One Knocker and the original Excalibur lipless traps. I let the fish tell me which one they prefer each day.
