Default Fish Finder

What fish finder do you guys reccomend? I am looking for one that will show me the structure underwater, where the FISh and BAIT fish are, the water temp, depth, gps, etc. I am mostly concerned with underwater structure.

Thanks,

-stevo

I've got a Humminbird 595c. It's basically new (2-3 yrs) and it freezes up on the occasion.
I'll work on it but next time I'm going with Lowance. The color version up front with and a model with a GPS/depth on the console. I figure appx. $1200.00 to $1400.00 total.

If money is an issue I HIGHLY recommend a Lowrance M68C. Color unit, with built in GPS no external antennae, fits ANYWHERE and is absolutley one of the easiest units to run. Beutiful clarity in the sun or at midnight, works better than alot of high dollar units even at high speeds and comes loaded with an EXCELLANT program containg the U.S., water temp included. For $399.00 plus shipping I couldnt have been any happier when I purchased this unit. By now they should be down a little in price. Go to Iboats.com.they usually have these units on sale. Personally This unit is probably gonna replace my X52 at the helm as soon as I save up enough money to put another more powerful unit at the bow. I will have 2 perfect X52 units for sale when I do this.

Steve, I hope you don't mind me adding to your question, but I am looking for the same answer really and have an additional related question. When choosing a depth finder, what advantage is there in having a color screen vs a black and white screen? Do the various colors on the screen stand for different items. Such as green for weeds, gray for fish, brown for the lake bottom?

I reread my post and it sounds like I am not using the M68C. I have one of those at the bow and a X52 right beside it. Another X52 at the front. When I upgrade the X52's they are gonna be the X135 units...........I aint changing the M68C units yet. They do the same thing the bigger more expansiver units do except they dont have the power or thw capability to take extra programs. I am working with Lowrance to try and get them where they will make the M68C take the extra programs. They prolly wont. So when and if I upgrade the GPS/FINDER combination unit one of the 500 series Lowrance units will be the one going on there. Cost of those is betwen 500-700 depending on which one you get.

Default Which depth finder

I'm a Product and Technical Specialist with Humminbird. Wanted to respond to a few issues here. First, bassman30 what you are reporting on our 595 is not the norm. I would gladly have this unit repaired/looked at for you at no cost. Email me at ekendric@johnsonoutdoors.com

Next, I have to differ on the opinion of the LMS520. Our 787c2 unit retails for the same price and has 640 vertical pixels -vs- 480. Ours has our Dual Beam Plus sonar. 200kHz and 86Khz. Seperately or blended together. 4000W of sonar power compared to 2400. Internal GPS option and ability for $200 more to have all of the Navioinics Gold and Hot Maps burned in here at the factory. A lot more options and capabilities for the same money.
And if you haven't seen Side Imaging yet please take the time to investigate the best technology to hit the fishing world since the Flasher was introduced.
Check out Humminbird before you buy. I'm here for any and all questions.
Humminbird is the innovation leader and we pride ourselves in quality and customer service.
