Also, Sometimes You Can See Deep Scratches On The Head Of Bass, Obviously From A Crawfish Trying To Grap Hold Of It

scratches can come from just about anything, though. Rocks, tree branches, toothy fish, birds, turtles..just about anything that can possibly gash or cut a fish has to be considered then.

I don't think most crawfish have a chance to even pinch a bass because of the way a largemouth opens up to eat. Their mouths get pretty huge, and they actually suck prey in, rather than bite down on it. I guess it would be possible if the crawfish got sucked in and the bass was tryin to situate it for swallowing...but I dunno. I'd stick with the teeth as a baseline indicator of the main type of prey in a body of water.

Today is the first time I've been fishing since hearing about the "teeth" test. I caught three bass. All three were about 1.5lbs. I caught two in the same area in shallow water near a drop off in the main body of the lake on Mann's Baby 1-. The bass had sharp teeth. I caught the other on a Mad Man craw on a stand up jig in a channel that leads to a flat and ultimately a creek. It had virtually no teeth. Maybe there is something to the teeth thing, maybe not. By the way, I told my buddy about the teeth thing after I caught the one on a craw, and he switched to a Mad Man craw. The next bass he caught in the channel was about 2.25lbs. Coincidence? Unfortunately, it threw the hook as he reached for it. We'll never know about its teeth, but I have a good guess.
