Default Boat paint suggestion needed.

I'm wanting to cleanup and paint my jonboat. The old paint is scratched and flaking off. I'm just not sure what type of paint would be best for a jonboat. I'm thinking of brush painting the bottom and floor of the boat for a good covering, and using spray paint for the sides, inside and out, for a good looking finish. Would standard Rustoleum paint work well enough, or is there a better paint more suited for marine use?I'm not wanting to spend an arm and a leg for a simple jonboat.

KEITH,
About 20 years ago the trailer on my Tracker was starting to show rust spots from gravel pits and salt spray on the roads. I painted it with spray cans of Rustoleum (2 coats) and it flowed out beautifully. After a couple years I had a local welder put on a set of taller guide rails and step plates. When he finished he said "sorry to ruin your trailer paint". I told him that I would just wire brush the burned areas and sand them, then give it a couple more coats of Rustoleum. He could not believe that I had painted the trailer with Rustoleum myself, he said it looked like a body shop paint job. If you are careful, Rustoleum will flow out and look like a pro job, just don't get too heavy on the first coat or it will run.

Keithdog I used a automotive paint on mine. You have to use a self etching primer for it to stick right. The painter that done mine said that I should sand blast first, which I did not, so I sanding it. The paint job looks good from a distance, but didn't turn out like I wanted. You can see it, take a look at my album. The painter used baking soda as a medium for blasting, on another jon boat, and it turned out great. I hope that this helps.

Rustoleum aint bad at all. Actually I'm gonna do the rustoleum $50 paint job on my truck when I get the time for another project. It couldnt be any worse than my current peeling clearcoat.
