Default St.Croix 6'8" Med. power, extra fast tip.... recommended application?

I have an avid series St. Croix rod with the above mentioned specifics. I have had this rod for several years and have hardly used it. Most likely purchased it prior to giving much thought to rod actions and their applications. Was using it yesterday doing some cranking and every fish I caught was barely hooked and lost a couple very nice fish with it.

I would think the extra fast tip is probably a poor action to have in a crankbait rod...... what are your recommendations? Thinking of buying a St. Croix Premier Crankbait rod with mod. action in medium / heavy power in 7 ft. length.

Any thoughts or advise is greatly appreciated !
