Default Ice Out Tips

Well, it's about that time to get the boat back in the water around here. The temperatures are gradually warming up into the low 40's around here in Southern Michigan and the ice is slowly starting to thin in most lakes around here. Some ponds are even fishable if you want to put a canoe in.

So, what tips do you guys have for ice out?

What is this substance you speak of. Ice? I only know of it to keep drinks cold.

Yeah , I second that , what are you saying ?

To answer your question , id try a jig around some rocks , rip rap , so on.. Id also try a hard suspending jerkbait with slow jerks , more like a pull since its so cold.. Look for warmer water , possibly in the upper end of the lake on the north banks..Hope you find some success..Im about to break out too , got a tournament the first weekend of april and need to prefish alittle.

hahaha buzzy, i can't help ya on the ice out thang. but i'll tell ya that you probably should use that shakey head thing for a while. fish real slow in other words. if the water is still in the 40's the fish are still moving around slow. good luck pal. post yer catches too.

Buzzy, until the temps get up there, I do good with jerkbaits and super flukes. and oh course, the dropshot.

Oh yeah! Gettin' me all hyped up and I thought I was relaxed for the night.

Suspending Jerkbaits, Jigs, and Lipless Cranks are at the top of my list.

Spinnerbait anyone?

Getting ready to hit the water by late March here in NY as the NYC reservoirs are starting to finally thaw. Until the water gets into the upper 40s, I'm in no rush to hit the water early. I usually wait until 10am or so. Not sure if it really helps the fish that much, but it sure makes us a lot more comfortable.

We target North shore flats with direct access to deeper water. presentations of choice are a 4 inch tube, a finesse 1/8-4 oz jig, Drop Shot finesse worm, and a #6 XRap worked very slowly with long pauses.

As the water warms up, I'll move to a #8 XRap and a spinnerbait as my primary lures of choice.

As far as I'm concerned, there is no better lure on Earth for late Winter-early Spring bass than a suspending jerkbait.
