i wear either rockys or carolina boots. i go thru a pair of soles every 6-7 months i have mine so i can have them re-soled for $40...i dont care what boot you buy. the cement factory floor will eat all of them up..since i work in a wet/muddy/cement, they must be waterproof..

Rockys, carolina, georgia boot company, lehigh, there are a LOT of others out there better than dickies pal. Little more money, but worth every penny.

I'm liking my Ariat's real well. I can go work in them and then dust them off and they're spiffy enough to go out in that night.

Yeah, there are better boots out there than dickies, but bassboss, what are you going to be doing that you'll need a better boot? I've had the same pair of dickies, this will be my third year with them. I wear when I work in my dad's shop, doing yard work, shore fishing, etc.

My dad, who works in his 5 days a week and wears them when he works on the weekend, goes through a pair of Red Wing boots a year. While not their top of the line, they're not cheap boots either. The guy at the Red Wing store is shocked and says those boots normally last 2 years for other guys.

But before you spend big bucks on a pair of work boots, make sure you need a high dollar pair. I honestly don't think you'll need more than what a pair of dickies will give ya.

Oh, and I though you were saving for a lawn mower???

Thanks guys! I know that Dickies not the best, and that's why I'm getting them! They're just for fishing and tropsing through the woods and what not, maybe even for school if they're clean enough! I'll check out some of the brands you guys are talking about.

I had been wanting a new pair of kick arounds without the steel toe. I found a pair of Rocky Ropers at Gander Mnt for $180. I got my size and then went to ebay and got them for $80, new in the box. If you are going to be mucking around, try to find something waterproof though. Maybe you can shop around and get your size right and then find a good alternative to buying them at a store.

I have a tough time finding boots or shoes since my feet are 2 different sizes. To add to that, for boots I did NOT want steel toes (I have horses, don't want them stepping on steel toe boots). Found a great deal on some Timberlands at Tractor Supply. Very comfortable, Had them for about 2 or 2 1/2 years now.

Cool guys thanks, I'm gonna go to Dicks and/or Gander in a few minutes. Gonna check out some different boots, having Dickies (and the other y'all mentioned) on my mind. If I find a nice pair, I'll do some snooping around on line before I get them to see ifn I can get a nice pair.

Thanks again guys, wish me luck! P)

Steel-toe boots are more dangerous to your toes than normal boots when a heavy weight is dropped on them. Whereas a normal boot would just crush your toes, a steel toe would curl and crumple in, cutting your toes off.

busted
Using similar tests to those used to test steel toe boot certification, Adam and Jamie determine that your toes are much safer with steel toe boots than without. There was no toe-cutting curling of the steel toe, and even using a blade attachment didn’t work, only glancing off the steel toe to cut right above where it ended.

It takes 500+lbs to do that though. Watched it on myth busters, too!

Well since nobody mentioned Doc Martin boots, I thought I would since i've been wearing the same pair of Doc's work boots for over 12 years now and the soles have finally worn to the point that I need to think about replacing them......Best damn boots i've ever owned, bar none.

I'll second that! I've owned several pairs of Doc's, they are by far the most comfortable, well made, daily wear/work boots i have ever owned. I do prefer Rocky's in a hunting boot though.

but, my horses weigh about 1k each.
Best plan is to get the heck out of their way if you think your toes are in danger

Georgia makes a pretty solid boot for the money. Anymore though, nothing but Red Wings for these old feet. At least in the warm months.
Rockies for Winter and Herman Survivors for Spring/Fall.
Boss, I had a pair of Dickies once. Once!
The sores on my feet lasted longer than the boots.
