Default Broken weld on reelfoot...

I think I can get replacement parts for this, but on the chance I cant, anyone know how to fix this issue.

Its on an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5000....broken weld on the reelfoot.

Didn't you just buy that?

You probably could JB weld the hell out of it. It would take a big fish to break that. Or you could always use duct tape, a paper clip and some sewing thread and a beer bottle cap to fix it. But that was obvious.

note to self: NEVER let brother love work on my truck,boat,tackle...

there spot welded fine some one with a mig welder it would just have to be a dab of weld to hold it..oh yeah and remove the line prior to welding there tends to be alot of HEAT transfer..

at a point in my life i was a toolmaker , if you don't have access to a welder just go down to home depot and pick up a small torch kit and and the appropiate base for torch welding . just make sure you don't get the stuff you would use on wires cause it won't hold for long , and i'm sorry i don't have the names of everything right off the top of my head but been out of the trade for 6 years now

Yeah I just bought it, put it on a cheap rod I had just to try it out and see how it was. Put on deck of boat in garage, start to reorganize tons of crap on boat....and knocked the sucker off onto the garage floor. It didnt have far to fall and I've dropped many more sensitive items longer distances.

I'm amazed it broke, but I did like the hour of fishing I got in with it enough to get it fixed :P

Well yea you can get it spot welded if he has someone who can do that handy - or if wants to pay for it. I just wouldnt pay to have that reel welded myself.

From experience; I STRONGLY recommend that you strip the reel down to the bare frame, including removing the entire levelwind assembly, before doing any welding. It's easy, since you need not disassemble the gear train, etc, to do so. This will make the work easier and avoid the risk of "collateral" damage AND you can leave the line on the spool.
The frame can be more easily clamped in a cushioned vise for the welding process.
