Floating Worm around cover...

What gear you use when fishing a floating worm? Spinning/Baitcasting? Pound Test? From what I have read bright colors (pink/lime/yellow) work best, what colors do you prefer?

This may get a lot of different opinions. I personally use spinning for my plastics, all my rod/reels are set up with PP 30#. I do agree w/ the colors you mentioned, However I also use a lot of darker worms also, Junebug, Pumpkin, black, purple. My theory on the darker colors- floating on top presents more like a snake floating up on the surface, especially close to lilies or eel grass.

I love floating worms, especially on a texas rig, but when I'm fishing them on top or just under the surface, I like to use spinning gear as well. I use a light line mono around 8# test with my favorite colors which are, black, white, watermelon w/red flake. The worm has all kinds of appeal and almost any presentation can be effective. Experimentation is as much fun for me as I'm sure it is for others. Try being creative and mixing up colors, and rigging presentations. Working a worm quickly on top or just under the surface can really be a good way to get a strike. Use a light wire hook to keep the worm on the surface, or a heavy wire hook for running just under it.

I guess it would be fun to pull a few juvenile delinquent bass out from around the cover before you pitch a jig into the heart of the cover to pull their grandma out.

I always try to flip into the most impossible spot I can find that looks bassy, especially any area that has cob webs...
Why you ask? no one else has been there yet today....

Jb, That bass don't get big by chasing everything that comes by. You have got to drop it in their face.

We need to get out and fish.I don't know why we torture ourselves by living in the snow zone areas ?

Of course, I most likely wouldn't be employed by the same company for 24 years if I could fish when I wanted to.

I use spinning gear with 8 lb. test fluorocarbon. When I rig it I also put a swivel about 7-8 in. up the line to prevent line twists and it just helps to add some weight for casting. The color I throw the most is bubblegum, but flfireman makes a good point about the darker colors.

A 5-6 MH Lightninrod Pistol grip rod with 12 lb mono. Bubblegum is my go-to color.
