Fishing in Cold Sunny Weather?
What do you guys like to use on a really sunny, cold fall day? Do you present it slow or fast? Are the bass tighter to cover? And what depth should they be at? Near the bottom or to the top of the water? What lure do you reccommend, and in what colors?
Thanks Ryan

I would fish slow. The fish are most likely on cover because of the sun(if it is sunny fish shade)

ever notice that the sun appeas brighter in the winter? that is because the humdity is gone. fish tight to the structure, slow fall, umm wind blown rock-rip rap-that is full in the sun..or a currant area..

if its sunny and calm you can rest assured they won't be in shallow open water, too easy for the predators to get 'em.

anytime you have sunny, bluebird skies, the fish will be very tight to cover.
i would use a bright, suspending jerkbait with a little flash. my choice is rapala x-rap extreme slashbait.since it is cold water, a suspending jerkbait stays in the area and depth you want it to, cast past the cover and twitch reel, twitch, whatever you want to do, then when you get to the cover, stop retrieving and watch your line, and repeat.

Not to rain on anyones parade but the question "What is cold the weather or the water?" I have on several occasions found fish on ledges leading to shallower water to be excellant choices in the cooler weather AND water. I usually fish a 300 series bandit in a shad pattern for these conditions. What I have found is the bass are inline for the smorgasboard that is soon to happen ie....the shad migrating back to deeper water for the winter. Just a headsup to try.

Hey Rodman Rod,
Unless you are a yankee and have Muskies and Pike ,then what kind of fish can eat a L/M bass ? I thought that they were considered top of the food chain as far as fish are concerned. Please correct me in the event that I'm wrong.

Cormorants eat bass.Spelling might not be correct. The bird will eat, or try to eat any fish it can catch in shallow.I seen one heckle a big carp, biting at it chasing it all over a shallow flat this summer. P N J

It don't look very big in the picture, but the adults can have 50" wing spans.Apparently they aren't fit to eat, or there would be alot less flying around. P N J

come now bassman you fish high rock and ask that question. a 30 pound flat head will eat any thing that #1 alive #2 will fit in it's mouth. that can and does mean a 15" bass..

Shovel head was my first thought to, or a big cat..those birds migrate south around here, almost all the birds do but pigeons and a few blackbirds.
Around here the bass tend to stay deep in winter. Water temp at my pond today (surface) is 35 degrees |
