Default Line -vs- Budget

OK guys, here's one for 'ya...

About how much do or will you spend after all your line is bought, all said and done, all rods spooled. I'm figuring I will have to spend around $75 all together. One braid, three fluorocarbons, and one mono.

What are you guys lookin' at spendin'?

I'll need some new line for my new topwater setup. It's a 6ft6in med St Croix Legend and a Revo Premier. I have a spool of 10lb ExtraTough. Any other thoughts on what line to use? I'll be throwing Spooks, Sammys, poppers, etc.

Bob, I'd go with 12 lb. I use that on all non-braid rods.

LL, you can save yourself a lot of $ using backing. Put cheaper line on the reels until you have room for 2-3 long casts then fill it up with the good stuff. thaat way you can really stretch your line and $.

I might go with 10 lb. on the crankin' rod; maybe 12 lb. since Fluorocarbon has a lower diameter.

I also need a spool of 6 lb. on my drop-shot/finesse rod.

Finally, I need a spool on my PNJ/C-Rig rod; 15 lb.

Satisfied?

I too am thinking about a topwater rod, but I don't know if I should go B.C. or Spinning. I like Spinning for casting the lighter lures, but a B.C. will handle the heavier Spooks, Sammy's, etc.

What do you Guys think?

Bulk spools will last alot longer than one spool will. Keep it in a dark place in constant temp.

Cajun line in 6 lb for my finese Rig. Magnathin in 12lb for worm rod. 20 lb big game on my flipping stick. I don't care for braid at all. All of these are pretty reasonable in cost in bulk & pretty strong.

I don't plan on spending too much figuring I only have like 4 reels to spool.

Topwater, crankbait, and two others. hopefully I'll have my Flippin' stik built before spring, if my dad ever finishes building it.

Oh and we have over 60 bucks in our Musky rods. one filled with 30lb PP, and the other 30lb BPS excel braid. Then our two trolling rods are filled with 20lb mono.

This is one of the best ways to reduce your cost.I change my line often, somtimes daily depending on the conditions all my braid rods are backed with a bulk spool that I got on E-bay.

Do you Guys reccommed to put bulk spools in the freezer? I think it was Zooker that spoke of this in one of his posts.

You don't need to put your bulk spools in a freezer. Just keep them in the dark under a constant room temp. I.e. 68-72.

LL, when I get a bigger spool of mono, probably Ande (thanks Zook), I will probably put it in the preezer (thanks Zook). As for my other lines. I keep the spool in a soft reel case like this one:

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...l&N=4887&Nty=1

Something like the Economy 10-Reel Case. anyways, unless I'm taking them with me, I keep them in my basement, which is always pretty cool, even in the summer.

As for lines I use a lot, like the Fluoro I use for leaders, it stays in my tackle box. But that's about it.

Speaking of storing line, Cabela's Master Spring Catalog has a line-specific (normal-size spool) case made to hold about 8(?) spools of line. I can't remember what it's called, but it doesn't look too bad.

Yeah, there are a couple different kinds like that. The Berkley Spooling station, the new Plano line spool boxy thingy. and others.
