Default Making a Fine Little Hair Jig

A fine little hair jig......
Start with a 1/16 oz. leadhead in your vice, bronze hook.

Begin by painting the head black with acrylic paint....I use the 44 cent brand from Wal Mart. After the paint is dry, overcoat with nail polish.....I use the cheap N.Y.C. brand called White Lights Glitter color number 101A for this. You will see why as you put it on....then after this dries, put on one coat of Hard as Nails with Nylon....

Using white thread and beginning to tie near the back end of the hook a little behind the lead collar....tie on two strands of blue spinnerbait skirt material making them stick out about one inch beyond the hook bend.......now, tie on four strands of pearl Crystal Flash the same length as the blue.....this creates the tail.

Now, mash the pointed "keeper" down even with the collar. Wind the white thread up and onto the back end of the collar. We are about to add the crosscut zonker. It's a strip of rabbet hide with the hair pointing toward one side of the strip. Place the strip end over the collar at an angle and wrap four or five times with the thread. The angle I speak of is about a 45 degree angle with the strip angling out and toward the back of the jig, actually going back beyond it. This angle gives you a chance to tie on and easily catch the end of the strip without catching too much zonker hair and making a mess.

After wrapping the zonker end securely, wrap the thread forward on the collar to the back of the jig head.....now wrap the crosscut zonker strip forward three wraps and wrap several times with the thread.....clip the strip and wrap a collar of thread about 1/8 inch in length........make a loop in the thread, turn it around and loop it over the leadhead and pull tight.....making a half hitch on the thread collar...do this four times, pulling and working snug each time....then clip and coat tthe thread wraps with nail polish.

When buying the zonker, be sure to get the crosscut. I've had by far the best luck using the plain white crosscut. Clip the blue tail pieces and crystal flash off so they stick out the back end of the white hair body about a quarter inch.
