Braided line Sink, Float? topwater
Does it sink or float when using top water?
Ive always seen it SINK< and pull the bait down in the water. Reason why i ask is cause a friend of mine swears he has braided line on his baitcaster, and he says it FLOATS? I think hes playing a april fools joke on me!

Virtually ALL braids WILL float or will sink more slowly than mono. It will definitely sink wayyyyy more slowly that fluorocarbon or fluoro "blends" like P-Line FloroClear (correct spelling.) However, for many topwater applications braid is well-suited. It's dandy for constant-motion TW such as buZZZZZZZbaits, toads, and is fine for almost all others if visibility is not an obsession with the user. One good reason for using braid is it's far smaller diameter in any given test strength when compared to other lines. Less diameter means less drag and this is a real advantage when retrieving TWs that require a walking motion in order to be effective. Think "Spook" "Sammy", etc. For those who avail themselves of the walking capability of such lures as the SPRO Frog, the same benefits exist. There's one "Bad news/Good news" aspect to using braid for TW. If one tends to react a bit too quickly to a TW strike braid will exacerbate the problem since it's lack of stretch will contribute to "Taking It Away From Him Syndrome". It's critical to FEEL the fish before setting the hook in any case, regardless of line used and it's moreso, by far, with braid. In most instances one need only crank, rather than yank, in order to assure a successful hookup. Good luck! Lancer6 Last edited by Lancer6; 04-01-09 at 07:12 PM. |

yep like lancer said, braid does float. also like lancer said it is a great line for frogs. i use mono for all other topwaters but it is the only way to fly for frogs.

yeppers. Braid should float. That is why float anglers like braid.

Ive always Seen my line Sink when using braided, Firewire to be exact, maybe its because its water logged, or has been sitting in the sun to long.

The only braided line I've ever used is Power Pro and Sufix Performance Braid, and both float.
