Peta
I was talking to a friend on another site about some of the stupid things peta does and afterwards, I got to thinking... ( I know, that's where I went wrong)
Anyways, If Peta put all their time and efforts and money into solving real animal cruelty problems, like people starving their pets, or beating them or whatever instead of harrassing harmless fisherman and whatnot, they might actually get something accomplished. BB

Harrassing fisherman?
Funny how so many vegetarians shout PETA all the time, yet a lot of vegetarians claim it's ok to eat fish.

ain't no veggie. i eat BEEF, PORK, FOWL AND FISH!! and anthony, you are right my friend. if all these so-called "save this" or "save that" group would truly do something right and not worry bout all the fishermen, and hunters. they would really do some good. they should really try to help the spay or neuter your pet sponsers more than they do.

Vegetarians tend to be kinda stringy. Make for good jerky though!

I remember reading an article a few years ago about them throwing rocks at tourney fisherman and striking one on the head. I tell you what, I would rather watch some one catch a fish, than to tote an @ss whooping on the bank for popping Bubba on the head with a rock. I wonder how that veggie felt when the tractor snatched him out of the ground. Alright seeing red, good air in, bad air out. Stuff like this really gets me cranked.

"Kill it and grill it" ~ Nudget
The best thing you can do for the animals is serve them with taters.

There is a whole website dedicated to this , along with the statistics of the amount of animals adopted vs put down by peta every year and those numbers are kinda scary . Jim

You actually believe that's a real site more then just some jackass trying to make P.E.T.A look bad? .. I can find a website that says 40 something midgets fought a lion in Malaysia. Doesn't mean it's true.
I have no love for fanaticism of any kind. Well besides fishing and hunting but even we can go over the edge. People who have their heart in the right places but their heads stuck up their *** aren't necessarily wrong. Their methods yes but their overall commitment to animals is a good thing. A big problem with it is hypocrisy is in our nature. Just like someone mentioning vegetarians saying fish are ok to eat. We all do it or twist things to help our own views whether intentionally or not. Just to say it's ok to slaughter anything again I think is a horrid view. A true outdoorsman is the first person to call a game warden if someone poaches or does something that hurts the wilderness. If we want true "harmony" with our nature, as corny as that may sound. We do need people like PETA to watch it for us. Like I said their methods are incredibly skewed but their overall goal is to preserve nature. Something we all want. Bear. P.S. Please guys don't believe anything you read on the net as truth lol. Seriously take everything with a grain of salt. I would bet a good sum of money that site was set up by someone PETA scorned whether it was a large company or just an ex employee. Some animals are euthanised but those are going to be non adoptable or incredibly sick animals. Just think about it. If 20% of the animals are fighting dogs and very sick animals they are already down 20% of their possible adoption rate. Sorry for the long P.S. People need to understand we need to be about conservation, which I think most people on these boards are. As compared to preservation which in the long run won't do anything any good. |

I don't agree with PETA or their methods but I don't believe that this website(www.petakillsanimals.com) is truthful. It seems to me that this group is just as fanatical as Peta.
Extremists of any type scare me, and tend to distort everything to suit their own point of view. |

Nicely put bear. I do believe some of PETA's intentions are good, but like I said originally, they need to focus on important things like real animal abuse. Fishing isn't animal abuse. I too believe as outdoorsmen (and women) we need to care about conservation, but I don't think we need to be PETA freaks or tree huggers. If there's garbage in the lake or pond or on the ground, I'll clean it up while I'm there, but I won't go there every day just to clean up others' garbage. Would you guys buy a fourstroke motor just because it gives off less emision? didn't think so. BB

I am sorry.. You guys are right and we should just say "**** the environment" do for ourselves. Is that extra couple of mph's really going to make a difference? The bit more horse? Or if everyone starts beginning to worry about emissions and cleaning up the environment some would that make a bigger difference?
I am not some crazy hippy who things we are going to have utopia smoking dope and dancing around a campfire. I just think people need to take a step back and give a **** once in awhile instead of just thinking more power **** everything else. Bear Common sense goes a long way. |

Settle down there, big bear. Old-style 2-strokes are on their way out, whether we as fishermen want them or not. They are being replaced by the DFI and EFI units, which are amazing on gas mileage and emissions, while still holding on to that 2-stroke grunt. My Optimax rarely makes a single puff of smoke on start-up, and then not a whiff of it.
That being said, if I were to put a kicker on my bass boat for trollin, I would definitely get a 4-stroke. Please don't fall prey to hyperbole either, man. If someone prefers to run a 2-stroke, they're probably not saying "F the environment cause I want a couple more mph!". It's kind of unfair to characterize them that way. That is politics, not discussion. I care a lot about the environment, but like I said, I run a 2-stroke. I always pick up trash I see in the lake, and try to be reasonable with the wildlife resources as well.

I was just being over emphatic to show how extreme it can go to one side or the other. I'm to big to get angry over stupid things. I just get exasperated. I just want people to see how easy it is for things to get skewed.
Just a bit about me. I used to be a hardcore gear head. Had 4X4's hot rods a bike you name it. So I am not against them I just think a bit of clear thinking can go a long way. Just and fyi. You can slap emissions control i.e. (types of catalytic converters to virtually make it the same as a four stroke). I was more disappointed in the uncaring tones. I mean I live in Ohio guys You know the place where the damn lake caught on fire? (it was a river but same difference). I've been out on the lake and caught highly toxic fish. One was covered in tumors. I've seen deformed deer from being to close to the plants we used to have around. (I know they were from that since I gave one to DNR for testing). All I was asking for is a bit understanding and forethought for your kids and mine and their's etc etc. Poor polar bears! |

Hah. You had me until the Polar Bear comment.
Polar bears evolved around 200,000 years ago. Somehow they survived the Medieval Warming Period, which was 1,000 years ago, when all of the Arctic ice melted for a hundred years. They'll be fine. If not, they'll just start eating humans, in which case all of the PETA types will be happy. (now there is some good hyperbole )
