Few questions for ya guys........

I purchased a new spinning rig the other day, i got a veritas rod and i got that shimano cI4 (the combo is sick!). I put some braid on it and i was wondering if the guides will handle the braid alright, like would the braid eventually wear groves into the guides? I kinda figure that it will be fine since its a decent rod but ya never know i guess.

2# Ive fished my whole life but last summer is when i started fishing hardcore for bass. And ive never fished a spinner bait and i was wondering if i could get some tips on how to fish one?

Any comments would be GREATY appreciated! Thanks alot guys

BTW If anyone is looking for a good affordable swim bait the spro bbz-1 4" are awesome. I went to cabelas in wheeling, va yesturday and picked a few up. I went out today and fished em and caught 2 nice largemouths.

Veritas has SiC (Silicon Carbide) inserts in Ti frames, it will handle braid well.

The guides on the veritas are top notch! SiC are some of the best in the industry. You won't have the slightest problem with 'em.

you already got advise ont he rod pal. now for the spinerbait question.

there are a few techiniques i lie to use when throwing a spinner.

1) burn it! meaning cst it into the the shallows alongside the grass and burnit right at the top. reaction strike. sometimes i make a ripple withit.

2) yo-yo it! meaning cast it out along side DEEPER grass and yo-yo it p and down. again, reaction strike.

3) slow rolling! meaning cast it out, depending on the depth (count down method), i then SLOWLY reel it in, sometimes letting it obunce on the bottom kicking up some dirt and so forth.

these are jsut some of MY ways, others will chimein too i believe.

Yep, what Bama said.... . Now I don't endorse anyone nor do I make anything from any kind of advertising, but my war eagle spinner baits out fish all the rest to the point that I won't buy anything else. I think its the light wire they use. They break after a wile if you horse fish in, and they aren't cheap, but the bass love em.

I have never, ever, ever, ever seen a guide get grooved because of spectra line. Ton's of guys on the southern california multi day boats use standard ring guides with braid and don't have issues.

Spinner-baits = super versatile; You can catch bass on a spinner-bait just about anyway you can think of.

I've thrown spinner-baits in heavy vegitation, keeping the rod-tip high and fishing it almost like a frog, except I let it sink in open pockets and when you get to the out-side weed edge, you can just let it flutter... then WHAM!

I've flipped spinnerbaits to stumps and around trees overhanging from shore and fished it a lot like people fish jigs.

Reel them along side docks.

Stained water is one of my favorite places to fish spinner-baits. I think bass key in on the vibration that spinner-baits give off when water clarity is poor. Have you ever seen a bunch of muddy water next to clear water on a windy day on a wind-blown mud bank? Fish the line between murky and clear water with a spinner bait!

Once I was in a canoe in an old gravel pit. I had a black spinner-bait tied on and I was trying to figure out how deep the water was. I just dropped the spinner bait to the bottom in about 25 feet of water. I reeled in the slack and was slightly bouncing it trying to feel the bottom when a 4 pound bass swam off with it. It's the biggest bass I've ever caught out of that gravel pit!

I even troll spinner-baits for northern pike in Minnesota and catch a fair number of large-mouths along with the northern.

Also, play around with blade designs. I prefer a big single Colorado blade when slow-rolling or fishing deep. I think a Colorado blade turns more when falling slowly than a willow leaf. I like a willow-leaf blade or double willow leaf blades when fishing faster or burning them across the top. Also a trailer added to a spinner-bait is an easy way of adding some bulk to your bait without tying on (or buying) a bigger/heavier spinner-bait. Sometimes a trailer doesn't make a difference, but occassionally it does.
