Gamakatsu Trailer Hooks
I bought some 2/0 Gamakatsu trailer hooks for some spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. I put the trailer hook on and the surgical tubing stuff is way loose. I lost a bunch of trailer hooks. Am I missing something, or are the tubes just bad? Can you somehow heat these or shrink them or something?

slide your trailer hook on and then put the surgical tube over the barb and in the middle of the hook that you've just attached the trailer hook. As long as the surgical tubing is bigger in diameter than the eyelet of your trailer hook, it will stay on.

I'll try to follow that when I get some trailer hooks JB, but without them, I don't get it. Sorry i'm dumb. |

Two ways to use the surgical tubing.
First you can slide a piece over the eye of the trailer hook then push the bait's hook through the surgical tubing and the trailer hook eye. Makes the trailer hook somewhat more ridgid and less likely to hang IMO. Second way is to put the trailer hook on the bait hook and then pierce the surgical tubing with the bait hook rather then putting the bait hook through the hole in the surgical tubing. Let's the trailer hook be loose on the bait which some people like better. Think KVD advocates this method, but what does he know---lol. If you still have questions, I will try and get pictures that might show it better. |

Jools, you can put the trailer hook on and punch the point of the main hook through the tubing and slide it down-it will hold the hook on. I use a hole punch on a plastic milk jug and use the disks. Put the trailer on and then use one of the plastic disks. Punch the point of the main hook through it and slide it down the hook like this:

Ahh. How brilliant you are Reb. What a great idea. I also like my trailer hook to swing freely.
