So, the county announced the fees hikes for 2009 that will begin on 1 Feb.

We have no natural lakes here so we have to pay for daily use of the resevoirs. Most of them will not allow you to use a private boat so if you want to go there, renting from them is your only option.

It will cost me $45 a day to rent a boat. BTW, these are just john boats with either a trolling motor or in some cases a 5HP gas motor. No electronics, live well, or any other feature I would want in a boat.
It will cost me $8 to get a daily permit to fish.
In the limited number of lakes where I can put in a boat, it will cost me $7 to launch. $5 for a float tube.

The most popular lake costs $80 for the reservation and boat rental and $20 per person to fish.

This is on top of the $62 I had to pay to get an in-state license.
These cost increases are about 60% across the board.

I know I choose to live here, and choose to fish but come on this is ridiculous..

Wow cassidyta, that's terrible. Shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg just to wet a line. Those costs will keep alot of people from taking their kids fishing.

That's horrible! Does all that money go back to managing the lakes and stocking them, or supporting the fisherman? I think I know the answer.

I lived in California in the mid eighties and could not stand the thought of how much money you simply gave to the politicians and the municipalities for them to squander away (Georgia is getting that way too).
If I had to move again it would probably be to John and Lisa's and WTL's neighborhood (Alabama)! They don't get taxed nearly as hard as the rest of us!

Looks like it cost more to fish for a day then it cost to drive there to do it in the first place. I thought gas was bad but sh## hate to see how much a plate of fish cost there.

I can fish all day in a rented jonboat with a trolling motor and large battery for less than $20 at Bibb County Lake. I plan on going there several times this year with my father in law since it is only 45 minutes away. I can also launch my "boat" in for (I think) $5.

I was going to say that at least you don't live in WA State, but a quick peak and I saw you live in California. Both states must be twin sisters.

That said, it does make WA State a bit more bearable.

I feel for you on the cost to fish in Cali. Ouch. I wonder what would happen if all of the anglers like you for just one year decide to not pay for the privilege to fish and stay home (that would be torture, I know) of a license as a form of silent protest and see if there is any reaction by the state to the drop in revenue that might occur.

Sadly we know what happens in that case. A couple of years ago, one of the local resevoirs had raised their prices about 40%. We all decided to boycott them to show our protest. They ended up simply closing it down to fishing.
What we have tried to get started here is to boycott the city run concession and tackle shops at those locations. I am sure that at some point I will find myself needing something from there, but I am hoping to make the point to the best of my ability.

I have decided that if I can get a new PB this year, then all costs were worth it. I will make my sacrifices to the Bass gods and beg for mercy and a 13lbs bass.
