I'd say if you want to carry hardly any tackle, you may opt to continue to use the spinnerbait alot and also carry a small baggie of plastic worms, maybe one crankbait, and some clippers, easy enough to carry in a pocket, then just have the one pole

All around? A 6-6 MH rod and a reel spooled with 12 lb mono for spinnerbaits/crankbaits and one spooled with 50 lb braid for worms and jigs.

I would use a mh 6-6" rod spooled with 10-14 pound test. I would carry a few different types of soft plastics have a few crankbaits. Take your spinnerbaits. This should be pretty good for all around fishing . If you have room bring some jigs too.

I used to only take one rod and reel combo and a five compartment box with me. The rod was mh 6'6", and the reel was a Quantum Accurist PT. The five compartments held a lipless crank, a crank, tiki sticks/plastics/fluke, a spinner, and jigs. The color and depths of the lures depended on where I was fishing.

ewww less than 5 rods hmmm well spinner bait rod 6'6''- 7' HEAVY action 12-20 mono
a crank bait stick 6'6''-7' medium to medium heavy. at least 12 pound mono a worm rod 6'-7' medium heavy -may want to use spinning gear-at least 12 pound line.. i use ande but use what suits you personally. a quote that refuses to quit is" line is the most personal item an angler uses." quote by dcbullet.. i find this to be the excate meaning of angling.. zooker

Speaking of line. I recently loaded up my mh 7' worm rod with 30lb sufix braid. So far, so good. I've definitely lost some casting distance, but I get much less loose line on the spool. I'm using 12lb trilene on my crank rod. As a side note, it is harder than you know what to snap the Sufix if you get snagged on something.

This would be my suggestion. It is a Cabelas angler's tote. It will hold 8 rods, mounts on the wall and has a handle to carry it with. I have 2 of them and they work well. I think they retail about $30.00. I hope this pic turns out ok. Sorry, the pic's not larger. That way you can take all of your fishing rods and you won't be limiting.

I'm still wondering why you want to use mono on spinnerbait/crankbait? Why don't you use braid for all? Could you tell me what the big difference is? Thanks. H2O. |

H2O-the reason, especially with crankbaits, is that mono stretches. When a fish hits one it is not too difficult to pull the hooks out of the fish's mouth by setting the hook too hard-a real hard hookset with a crank can enlarge the hole the hook makes giving the fish a better chance of throwing the hook. The line having some give to it cuts down on this. It is also the reason most crankbait rods are M rather than MH action.
With a spinnerbait it is not as critical-I just like throwing them on mono.

Reason is that the lighter rod makes it easier to land fish on the bulky baits like cranks and spinnerbaits, especially for those less experienced.Crankbaits can be easily thrown on stiffer rods. however, this is JMO. |

i like a 5-6ft medium for cranking and jerkbaits ,and top waters, although I top water with several rods, but the advantage for me using the 5-6ft.
rod is that you can avoid hitting your rod against the boat or water when you are jerking the rod for top water action |

I have a similar problem when working on the ambulance. Since im not supposed to be fishing I cant tote around a bunch of stuff. I use a 6'6" MH IM8 graphite from BPS w/ a 5-2 gear ratio (might be more??). Have it spooled w/ 20# power pro. Carry around a small plano box 12"x6", w/ 1-2 horny toads, 3-4 worms (varying color and length), lizards, a rapala x rap, 2-3 wally world spinnerbaits and a hula popper. Also have a few extra hooks, weights and a pair of clippers. Quick and easy for me to hit the shore and throw back in my ambulance when I get a call.

h2o
let my explain the reason i like to use mono on blade baits. most of the time i -among others-fish weeds ,grass,ect.. with a spinner bait. braid has some good quaility's but here is the problem it is #1 thin diamater.and #2 no stretch. thin line sucks when you are working thru thick weeds with a blade. it does not knock a large enough hole in the weeds to pull the spinner bait thru resulting in hooking into more weeds an dulling the hook. as for no stretch you tend to set the spinner bait hook hard with alot of pressure to keep the fish from burrowing into the weeds. now a big fish will straighten a spinner bait out like a paper clip. this is what causes 90% of the spinner bait breakages. do this with braid and that paper clip will break twice as fast.. zooker
