Question on new Revo SX.....
Hi guys, I just got my new Revo SX in the mail today.
I spooled it up right away with 12# mono and headed out to the lake I was gonna target some pike. The reel was working great real smooth and everything. Then I moved to this different spot and the reel started to make a noise while casting. It makes the noise about 75% thru the cast then the last 25% of the cast it disappears. Its just weird because for the first 20 minutes it wasnt making the noise then it all of a sudden starts making the noise. And the performance isnt affected at all just makes the noise when the line is coming off the spool. Any ideas? |

I can't offer any help to you since I am not a very good reel mechanic. But if you give some more details like the type of sound, I am sure someone can help you.

Check and make sure all the screws are tight. I had a similar problem with a reel a few years ago that was new and found 3 of the screws were loose.

Typically, reels are way over lubed from the factory and I find this especially true of the Revos. With that said, if this is a new reel under warranty, just replace it. No new reel should be making noise out of the box. If this is a "New to you" second hand reel, I suggest sending it in for a professional cleaning and lube. This costs about the same or less than an oil change for your car/truck and done right, will get a lot more out of your reel's performance and life.

Seeing as how the Revo SX has magnetic brakes, we can eliminate the brake ring from centrifugal brakes. From time to time I get sort of a dull squeal out of my Revo's, and it is usually because one (or more) of the bearings are dry (or have little oil left in the bearing). It is usually in a stock reel, or one I haven't cleaned up in a few months. It is a good idea to take the stock spool bearings out and flush them with acetone, and dry them with compressed air. But you may just find that adding a drop of the Abu reel oil that came with the reel to the 3 spool bearings will quiet it back down. Let us know how it works out.

I lubed it up last night, and just casted it a dozen times or so and it hasnt been making the noise.
Tomorrow when I get off work im gonna go out fishing and see if it does it. i did some searches on google and a few ppl have said they have the same thing with their REVO SX's 7:1:1 and its just normal supposily. If it starts making the noise again im gonna send it back to cabelas and get a different one sent |
