Small Bluegill fry I believe

The bluegill fry are in force at this lake I think because I always hook them on my cranks here and there. They are about 2 inches to 1 and a half. Anyone got a bait that is good to mimic them. They are the major baitfish at this lake.

I'd try a rattletrap in a bluegill color pattern

storm wildeye has a soft gill bait about that size..i think -not sure- bagleys make a gill crank-i have one-..

Any blade style of bait in a bluegill pattern would work. I do have some of the storm swim baits, not sure if they are that small though. I know I have some that are shad colored that a 6" which is big.

I have a Rapala DT-4 in the Bluegill Color, and when i fish it in small ponds/lakes (50 acres) or less i usually get really good bass at these areas because the main forage is bluegills.

The closest thing to a bream I have is a Small Fry Bream made by Bagely.

I agree with the Wild Eye Shiner. A Bitsy Pond Minnow might work, too.

why not take a minnow trap and load it with bread, put it in the water for a couple hours, pull it up and you'll have all the bait you need for a days fishing. I'd venture to say bluegill 1-2" is better than any other live bait, seems bass can't resist them whenever I use 'em. If you're dead set on using lures, as mentioned before, the Storm Living Eye Sunfish is the best looking bluegill bait I've EVER seen.

I agree with Rodman Rob, live gills are good. A local fellow fishes them all the time for bass....he clips the fins and cuts off half the tail fin to keep the bait from escaping the bass, also for keeping the gill from wrapping around sticks and weeds. It sounds cruel at first, but the bait won't live long anyhow being used for live bait and all.

Can’t use live bait in any tournaments I familiar with.
Panther Martin and Blue Fox both make a soft blue gill behind a spinning blade. I just did a search but could not find them, so maybe I’m wrong. Perhaps it was beetle spin. I will keep looking, I know I have some in one of my boxes just can’t put my finger on them.

I don't even understand why you'd want to fish a tourney, isn't good on the bass, you got somebody telling you when you have to come in, what kind of bait you can use, the boaters being under a time limit drive like idiots making it unsafe to others wanting to fish at their own liesure, fishermen get a lot more territorial and confrontational, just too many negatives in my book. If I'm trying to compete, I'll do it with my fishing buddy or the fellas here on the board, but I'm not gonna catch a fish at 7am and keep it in my livewell till 2pm, might as well filet it by then. good article in bassmasters mag this month about the negative ramifications of tourney fishing.

all the tourneys i've fished in have a card u write the measuremens of the fish u catch, this way u can release the fish right away.

i also cut the spine fin off on bream. it is more of a handlin problem solver ever grab a livly brim? yep the spines will grab you too. i cut them off and chunk them in the live well when i catfish. do this with white perch also..
