just put the the buzzz bait hook through the eye of the trailer hook, then just add the little piece of tubing, and your set

You don't-you just need a straight shank hook with an eye big enough to pass the point of the main hook through it. Trot line hooks work great and are much cheaper than buying hooks labeled as trailer hooks.

I've used VMC, Gammy, and Eagle claw trailers hooks. VMC are my favorite because instead o the normal 5 pack for trailer hooks you get them in 15 (give or take a couple depending on the size) for just a couple more dollars. Some people will tell you to put the rubber tubing over the hook eye and then put it on the main hook, but don't. Free swinging trailer hooks are much better (even though you may get a few more weeds). Like mariner said, put the hook on, then add the ruber tubing.
Also, someone on here, but I forgot who, said to use a paper hole punch on a plastic coffee can lid and use the little plastic circles in plase of the ruber tubing. I haven't tried this yet, but I will if I run out of tubing. BB

I got the above tip off this board too and tried it because I couldn't find bulk surgical tubing around here and the hole-punched coffee can lid little circles work great. They're what I'm using now as a keeper for a trailer hook. Try it.

I use these spinner baits and they work well.

If you have a tool shop then you should have enough trailer hooks. Any hook will do as long as the eye is big enough.

What about trailer hooks on other baits? I have been missing a lot of fish on my little Rico plug even though the hooks are sharp and I do wait to give it a tug (as painful as the wait is). Do you think that these would hurt the action?
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpage-GSH.html Should I remove the rear trebble and use this only, tie it to the rear split ring, or maybe even right to the bend on the rear trebble? |

Reb, that definately is a great tip. I discovered that I have a couple trailer hooks left and somehow lost my tubing. Doh! So it looks like I'm gonna get to try it out.
Bender, I don't think it would effect the action of the bait. Although I'd go with some type of treble hook trailer for a bait like that. BB

That stinger hook is for speed jigging and will give you a big headache if you use it on a plug. They make a special hook just for your blind fish who always miss the plug. Capt Mike
