Default Guttboy/Rebbasser/Flyrod Lake Assault thread...

Hi Everyone!

Well our adventure last went pretty well! This weekend, with good weather hopefully , we will assault the electric only lake!

Rebbasser will be fishing with me in my Tracker and Flyrod will be piloting Rebbasser's boat. Rebbasser will be showing me his tricks and techniques.

This time I am going to use the Senko a bit and see how that works as last trip I rarely attempted it.

---------------UPDATE---------------
Flyrod is stuck at Bass Pro shops with a bad solenoid...(could be worse places to be broken down).
--------------UPDATE----------------
Flyrod had his solenoid fixed from a friend but when he went to thank him at the local pub....click click click......Rebbasser is now on the way to rescue Flyrod with a new battery!

Ill be hitting the sack soon....baits are tied, rods are stowed, Jeep is packed! Departing here at 0345 so its time for bed here shortly.

Wish us luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well good luck then, I'm going out tomorrow as well, waking up at 0430, but I can never seem to hit the boards till 12 or 1, leaving me a solid 3-4 hours of sleep...

Anyways Flyboy musta spent plenty being stuck at Basspro, I'd expect.

UPDATE.....

Well Rebbasser just called and Flyrod is broke hard.....not the battery it turns out....may be the starter. Flyrod will have to bow out from fishing tomorrow unfortunately. I know he was wanting to do some R&D with some new rigs/spots while Rebbasser and I cruised around. I even had the handheld radios charged and ready to go. Next time......

I PRAY that the weather holds out.....I am going to be very busy in the next couple of months so fishing will have to be on the back burner.

Hopefully Flyrod will get fixed up quickly!

If I were stuck at Bass Pro Shops.....OUCH!!!!!!!!!......I am glad I have their frequent buyer card! Racking up the pts quite a bit!

Regards,

Mike

PS....I too am guilty of reading all I can on these boards while I should be sleeping prior to the fishing trip!

Yeah, turns out now we are leaving at 0430, so waking up around 0330, which is going to come mighty quick in the next few hours. Its all worth it though.

Hope the weather holds out for you all, seems the thunderstorms havent been rollin in around here till late afternoon, which leaves plenty of fishin to get done and than off the water and back home just in time. Thats a bummer for ole Flyboy, my cars in the shop right now getting a new clutch, but we have 2 more so all is well.

Good Luck

We have been getting pounded with rain....limited chances to even mow the lawn. Pretty strange when North Dakota is hotter than San Antonio!

Well Flyrod just called....he is serenading the ladies at the local watering hole....unfortunately he wont make tomorrows adventure.

Well I will be turning in shortly....I say that but in all reality I'll find a thread about something and dig WAY too deeply into it....LOL

So, here I sit, all broken-hearted.
Wanted to fish but never got started.
(Literally...the ^$%#! starter on my old Ford Exploder perished.)

Still, I am participating in some small but, given the weather patterns as of late, potentially important manner.
Y'see, I'm checking the radar and the Live Lightning site every little while and will alert Reb and Guttboy to head for the ramp if anything menacing appears.
I did have communication with them just prior to 0800 and they report catching six bass, including a couple of keepers, since launching at 0500+. Good for them.
Much thanks to Reb for braving Loop 1604 (AKA "The Death Loop") last evening in an attempt to assist.
Friend Jerry will replace starter within the weekend.

FR
At the FlyRod Memorial Storm Watch Center, keepin' a sharp eye and being vigilant and....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Sorry for the late update but I had a "run-in" with somes sort of spider or other insect that decided to sting my hand. This caused burning in my hand and then sent pain up my arm to the shoulder/pectoral area. This was not during fishing but 20 min after I got home as I trimmed some trees behind the house. All is well 24 hours later though! Man that hurt!

Back to the report...........

We headed out in the early AM. I left around 0345 and stopped at Taco Cabana for some breakfast tacos for Reb and I. Arrived at the launch around 0440 and Reb was there minutes after I arrived. We launched on his 17' Nitro without a hitch.

We cruised out to the dam and started fishing. Reb was fishing a weightless watermelon/cream laminate senko and I was fishing a 1/16 oz bullet weight/glass bead on the same bait. After a few minutes I had a strike! Landed a keeper that was a little under 2lbs or so. Reb wanted to get some other baits he left in the truck so we went back. Still dark and the offload/onload went fine.

This was the bass I caught early......

We proceeded back to the dam and continued to fish along it...the sky was just getting brighter but fog rolled into the lake and it was really surreal. We both caught another fish or so and continued around the lake.

We then moved across the lake to near where we launched and noticed a bunch of fish schooling on the surface. Reb stated these were definitely bass! This was happening within feet of the boat. Reb tossed a topwater (think it was a PopR) and a bass boiled up on it but it missed the lure. I figured they were chasing baitfish back and forth along the point due to the way the school was moving. I tied on a swimmin' shad and let it rip. The 4th cast was successful and I landed a small largemouth.

We kept on fishing, talking, joking, and just plain enjoying being outside. Flyrod called to update us on the weather situation a couple of times which was beneficial due to the unstable atmosphere down here near San Antonio as of late.

Reb landed this MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was in AWE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We proceeded up the creek and Reb caught a few small ones up along the shore. I had a few bites....I could see the small bass chasing my worm in the clear water. Flyrod called and informed us of more storms but they appeared to be moving just to the south of us. We continued to fish but started working back towards the launch based on the information Fly passed to us.

As we were heading out we could see a WALL of water headed for us! Talk about a monsoon! Reb pulled out his 'Frogg Toggs" and was nice and dry. I forgot my goretex and was very wet....LOL. Not to worry though, the rain was a nice change to cool me off (although my wallet and keys are still drying out).

We decided to head back for the launch and up along shore I was then fishing a watermelon red zoom worm. I had a nice hit and started the retrieve. Nothing....well not actually....I landed a nice little bluegill. A bit smaller than the one Flyrod caught last week. We then progressed towards a dock area and I had a nice bite and saw the bass (small)...he hit the tail. Just as that happened we heard two rumbles of thunder and headed home.

Reb and I both landed 6 bass a piece and I caught that MASSIVE bluegill....LOL.

Was a great trip! I am thankful to Rebbasser and Flyrod for allowing me to try their variety of rods/reels and I have learned alot!

Hopefully I'll see them up on the lake next Saturday!

Regards,

Lizards has turned into a HAWG catcher now that he lives in Florida. But those bass pictured there woulda made his bass feel like minnows had he still been fishing in Indiana... Haha. Anyways looks like you all had fun.

Well, even though the wonderful doctors and staff at Brooke Army Medical Center are the best burn specialists in the world, there wasn't much they could do since my mishap in early May. Ergo, it's best I not present such a countenance as might frighten you or cause nausea.
Maybe after the several planned reconstructive surgeries I can appear in public again. At least one eye was relatively unscathed.
Thanks for your prayers.

We definitely had a good time. Flyrod manning the weather radar/lightning strike info was great to have-he kept us up to date with what was in the area. My only regret was I had a second set of raingear set out to take and I walked off and left it, so Guttboy got a cold shower he didn't want or need.

Still, we had a lot of fun and even caught a few fish!

T'is where your sense of humor clouds my judgement, not sure whether you are being serious, and trying to put a humorous spin on things, maybe even a little exageration, or whether this is all another made-up concocsion. But my better guess says its all made up...

Either way, you cant look worse than some of the regulars around here

Reb,

DONT WORRY ABOUT THE RAINGEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL.....

I needed that shower anyhow to get the copious amount sunblock off my body. I smeared 2oz of the stuff on me when the tube exploded in the heat!

Ill tell you what...its nice to have a "pit crew" when fishing. Flyrod's timely inputs gave us some good insight to the weather!

Regards,

mike
