Default Painting a rod?

i know its kinda odd. But i've got this one rod, thats kinda the old faithful. I've put a new tip on it in the past to keep it alive, and i still love fishing with it. but its starting to look a little shabby. the fibers are starting to glisten, and its just sun beaten. Has anyone out there just spraybombed a rod?

I have never given that a thought. Hmm.....I would think that it would be tough to do without the paint cracking and chipping because of the flex that rods have. I think that I would try and contact a rod maker for their thoughts on the idea. It will be interesting to see what the folks on this forum come up with.

I would put a bit of light varnish on the rod and leave it at that.

I swear paint does add to weight. Maybe in my mind but it seems to.

Paint is heavy. I don't think it's in your mind WTL.

If you paint it, make sure you paint it light green so you'll have the first Celery Stix rod out there. Start the Celery Stix trend

Wouldn't the chemicals in the paint effect the integrity of the exposed fibers? Sems like it could make them brittle. I know spray paint has that effect on some materials.

But i intend on sometime this summer, to build one and if i do, i'll make sure its a Celery Stix

When I paint rod for someone custom I use a lite build epoxy and use testors enamel paint like for a model car. I can give you the mixture it varies with the length of the rod. I found that using your finger it gets a smoother finish and the weight is not much at all. The rods nees to turn maybe up to 8-10 hours to set up the epoxy and paint.
