I'm right handed...I cast with my right hand, swap the reel to my left, and turn the handle with my right. The swap takes place before or as the lure hits the water.
I'm glad this was brought up again. My dumb azz never thought about getting a left hand baitcaster and I switch from spinning to bait caster all the time. I get used to the one and try to grab the handle on the wrong side when I switch. Don't know why I never thought about it. Must be an evalution thing.

For me, there is something about the crank on a baitcaster that I just can't seem to manage if it is on the left. I think it has to do with the over/under relationship of the reel to the rod, I can crank on the left if the reel is under (spinning) but I can't do it if the reel is on top (baitcaster). I have this same problem with spincast reels that are set up on the left also. I dunno why this is, but if the reel is on top of the rod, I have to palm it and use my right to crank. I was even doing this before I ever used a baitcaster. Weird eh?

A lot of people fish spinning reels opposite their baitcasters. My dad does: lefty spinning and right handed baitcasters.
