when to use skirted 1/4 jig

when would you use a 1/4 oz skirted jig?

i use them all the time in winter,and some during the warmer months.i like the slow fall rate of em,and i can adjust the fall rate with the trailers and skirt trimming.the lakes im fishing have little to no cover so 1/4 ounce and 3/8 jigs are my mainstay.but i have alaways been a little wierd and have never won any big tournaments.

I seldom do. The only real reason for me is if I need a very soft presentation into the water or if I need a slow fall rate once it is in the water.
There are other's who will swear by it.

I use them for everything but flippin and deep water (over 20'). I think these are the only 2 times you"ll need any thing heavier and they will work all seasons of the year.

i hardly ever go that light. but if i am using one it would be in really shallow water or when i am wanting a very slow fall.

I'm like Cory... I use 1/4 oz. jigs the least. However, 1/4 oz. is the size you want to use in very cold water temps.

Other than that, 3/8 oz or 1/2 oz. flipping jigs are the norm, since I am nearly always going after a reaction bite. In fact, I'm now throwing 3/4 oz. flipping jigs in the warmer months as well. I suspect one day, you may even see anglers throwing 1 oz tungsten flipping jigs. It's all about the reaction bite.
