What it does is it monitors spool rotation during the cast and says it updats evrey 1/1000th of a second. basically its for allowing really long trouble free casts.
I wish i had 500 period but i wouldnt buy this reel id buy five for 100 a piece |

Meant to add this
I think its exactly the same as the calcutta you have it just has that chip to help with casting and unless your having trouble casting with the model you have i would go with something else or atleast comepare similar reels first. |

If I'm not mistaken(wouldn't be the first time) Dave White did a review on this reel on his site. Worth checking out anyways. Lizards

Shimano is putting out 3 reels like that over in Japan. I have looked at all three and they are really nice. All ranging from $400~ I think if you are a back lasher then it is worth the money but if not use a regular bait caster and they are the same. Daiwa is working on one as well. It is a little cheaper but same principal it wont be out for another 3 months.
