Hello from Australia
G'Day guys, I have been cruizing your american bass ites for donkeys so I thought it was time to register on one of them. So I have decided on this one.
I fish tournaments over here in Australia for our freshwater bass and also tournaments for a saltwater species called bream. I'm a sponsored angler so I know my way around so to speak. The techniques that you guys use for your fish bluegill, crappie large and small mouth bass all work on the tournament circuit that I fish in. Yes I pinch some of your tips and they do work well. The lures I use for the bream fishing are mostly in the 2 - 3" range for plastics with the Berkley range being my favourite such as bass minows and the 2" grubs. Pumpkinseed colour rocks! For the crankbaits for bream we use small lures rough 1" - 1.5" that run around 6ft maximum. For bass fishing I use lures a little lareger but not much. At the moment the lipless cranks are all the rage with the Lake Police Jackalls setting the standard. Your Zara spooks, pooches and jitterbugs also claim alot of bass off the surface. I just love throwing surface lures around in the dark. While I'm here I was hoping that some of you fine gentlman may be able to help me find a good supplier of some Gary Yamamoto Sugoi Mini Splash II surface poppers or perhaps recomend a similar sized lure please. These lures are no longer available in Australia. So if you can help an Aussie angler out I would appreciate it. Please don't suggest ebay I'm sick of waiting. I plan to buy bulk if available. Anyway nice too be part of this site and I hope you guys don't mind an international guest every so often. If anyone wants pics of the fish I chace I'm only to happy to show some, but since this is an American bass site I don't wish to intrude. Thanks guys Nick |

Welcome to Bassfishin.com Nick!
It's a great site, with a ton of informational guys and gals around here. Also Sunday nights there is a chatroom where we can openly discuss fishing topics. I hear ya with the green pumpkin colored baits and topwater baits. Have you tried the Zoom Horny Toads at all? I highly recommend them! Good luck with your tournaments! Trista

Thanks
I'm beggining to feel welcomed guys. I will put some pics up for you guys very soon.
Here is a pic of the exact lure I'm talking about. It is made by Gary Yamamoto well it was they have stopped making them now hence why I'm having troubles locating them. The lure is only 2.1" or 52mm long, so it is small by your guys standards. Any help would be great. |

I've never seen that popper anywhere, they're probably as rare here as they are in Australia. Anyways, welcome to the site, Nick!

Just out of curiosity, I looked for the "Sugoi Splash II" and couldn't find any, even though there was several companies that popped up on google. The Sugoi Splash, was available, and Lucky Craft came out with a Splash that's very similiar, but nothing that small. Good luck in you search. I had my favorite worm discontinued also. It really sucks, but it's life. Perhaps you can contact some bait makers, and see if they can recreate it for you? I know of one who does magic with baits www.carolinachip.com but it would probably cost a lot, and probably would have to get quite a few for it to be worth their while. Just a thought.

Poppers
Thanks all.
Zooker I want a small lure because it suits my style of fishing. Over here in Australia we don't have your Crappie or your Brim. As I said I chase Bream and Bass. Our bass live their life during summer in the high reachers of freshwater rivers and them come down to the brackish water to breed during the cooler months. As for bream they are a predominantly saltwater fish that live on ocean beaches through to the upper tidal limits of rivers so they are widely distributed. So guys here are some pics. Now our bass don't grow as big as yours do. Here a 50cm or 20 inches for you guys is considered a trophy. Same goes for the bream but they do pull very hard for their size as you will see due to their tails. Regards Nick P.S The first two are Australain Bass. The next two are Bream. I use 4 -6lb Berkley Fireline with 4 - 6lb Vanish leader igged on spinning threadlines made for the job in sizes 750 - 1000s |

Poppers
Ok here are the bream pics these are just one variety of fish that can be taken on plastics and hard bodied lures. It is these bream that have now had a tournament series started up for them.
So you see now why your panfish, sunfish crappies and bluegill and bass techniques will work just as long as I down size the lure a touch. Regards Nick |

Wow, those bass grow short and round, don't they? I see that your "bass" are members of the perch family. Nice chunks, bet they put up a great fight.
