while i was out today
i dropped by a ranger dealership to see the new stuff. though not a ranger fan -big slow boats- i am really liking the new 40th edition 177 tr boat.. they have introduced the old school boat design on a new model ride.. i like old boats btw.. the seats are new for 08 and totally cool and fit me well..
and at $25,000 it can be had with a 115 yammer 4 stroke.. http://www.rangerboats.com/videos/vi...file=177TR.flv zooker

Zook here is was looking at trackers. I needed somthing the 95 nissan pathfinder could haul. Well i found it. I am in love. Going to see one this weekend. The 177 was my first boat. Metal Flake turd brown was it's color. But man it ran so nice accross the water.

moose
i have a ford ranger with a 3.0L it'll pull a boat like the 177.. the room up front is awesome a good 5-6 more sq foot carpeted deck -and we all can use more deck- moose if in your worried about boat weight get the 176tx stratos with a 70 horse. it'll cost about the same as that tracker and you get a better boat.. zooker

I havent check the rating of horsepower on this boat yet. I definately like the layout. You DO NOT want to under power a Ranger boat. They will perform very poorly. Any ranger you have you want to maximize the horsepower so that you will have the best possible fuel mileage, holeshot, topend, and safe handling in rough water. A underpowered ranger wont stay on top in bad weather. I KNOW THIS. and Ijust didnt pull this info outta the air this is the voice of experience.

yeah laser the max rating on that ride is a 115...thats what it had on it.. i checked the packaged weight with a 115 and 24 volt minnskooter was 700 pounds heavier than the same sized stratos package weight..

LOL ZOOK you know what I would do. Sneek the hood off of the 115 and stuff some more ponies under the hood. But hey thats what I do right.

They may be slightly slower than other boats when trying to plane out but from experience they will keep up with and some times pass some of the newer 4 strokes of the same horse power. They are easy to fish out of and wont chime walk as well. The trailers are road worthy and go where you go. These are good looking boats to boot. Thats of course in my personal opinion.

laser...a buddy of mine did that with a 17' bass cat. the cowl on the motor says 175 mariner but it is actually a 200 mercury optimax and that boat will scoot!

Yeah the old 177 was easy to pull. The boat haul makes this design run accross water really nice. 115 horses is just fine for a boat like this. It'll getter done. I have no issues with hauling a boat like this. I hauled the old 177 with a Nissan Hardbody truck. The ranger should do just fine.

We had about 15 ranger owners in our bass club and a handfull of other brands, I never knew they were considered slow, all of em had 150's on the back and were a pleasure to fish out of.
