May Bass Fishing Vaction Ideas...
Hey guys,
Me and my old man are planning on planning a bass fishing trip the third weekend in may for about a week. I was wondering if any of you guys can point me in the right direction. To narrow it up a little bit. We have a 15ft extra wide Jon Boat with a 10 horse. We were also thinking of going south to say tennesee, missouri, possibly arkansas area to go after some big bass and maybe a crappie or two. We'd love to find somewhere with a bunch of small lakes that isn't to over crowded... Any suggestions?

Try Texas.
Sam Rayburn Reservoir. One of the hottest bass/crappie lakes in the U.S.A. -Lunk-

in texas i would say lake bob sandlin(sp?), lake fork is just down the road from there and that would make a great trip. bob sandlin is a smaller lake with huge crappie and some great bass, and if you catch a calm day wind wise you could go to fork, we all know that lake has giants.

Try Monticello, Arkansas. We have some the best big bass fishing in the area. Also, there are two lakes that are pretty good for crappie. One is about 30 minutes from Monticello, the other is about an hour. Both are smaller lakes so you should have no trouble in that boat. May and June are excellent months for fishing at Monticello, although it's more heavily fished in April when guys are sight fishing. I've caught most of my bigger fish in late May and June, also Febuary and early April.

Well May is too early for Thousand Islands or the Boundary Waters. So go South. OR come over to the Cheasapeake tidal waters and mix it up with 20 or so kinds of fish. At least here you could leave the boat behind as there are tons of very good guides to take you.

Simple the ozarks in south missouri. Start in warsaw fish at truman lake. Don't forget below the dam at truman. Then there is Pome de terre home of missouri muskie. Then alittle further south there is Bull Shoals. Lake of the Ozarks. Stop by in branson at lake taneycomo. All of these are big name lakes. And there all with in a 150 miles. From truman to taneycomo.

lilmoose, he said a place that isn't too crowded. lake of the ozarks was ranked the 3rd most dangerous body of water in the world because of boat traffic. that is why i didn't mention it or tablerock. pomme is a good suggestion though.

End of May/early June the smallies will be spawning in Michigan. I have never been up to Burt / Mullet lakes but I know 20+ pound bags are common and know about 3 pound average bass. I know where I will be headed. I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl thinking about it.
But, I have heard it can get rough out there. There are also many smaller lakes loaded with smallies up there. Fletcher Pond might even be good. |
