Favorite crankbait mono?

As you may know I recently acquired a crankbait reel. It right now it has some 12lb mono that's been sitting in a garage for who knows how long. So I'm gonna replace it!

Right now I'm thinking 12lb trilene XL, Ande or sufix siege (if wally world has it). Or maybe Stren Magnathin, it's thin, so would be good for cranks, this stuff any good? I can't afford flouro right now now so, that out of the question.

I use 10lb test for just about all my cranks.

Shallow - 10-12lb Sufix Elite. I'm going to try Yo-Zuri Hybrid for this next year since that stuff is tough as nails. I just need to see if it floats or not.

Medium. - 10lb Sufix Elite

Deep - 10lb Sufix Deep Crankin' or 12lb Seaguar InvisX.

I'd stay away from Trilene, it's garbage IMO. Stren used to be good, but I haven't had a spool in the last 6 months that wasn't as bad as Trilene, lol. Sufix is about the only mono I use anymore.

I was kinda wondering about the sufix Deep crankin' too, how is it different form regular mono?

I think the only main difference is that is it denser, so it sinks like fluoro instead of floating like a normal mono.

I really like the SilverThread lines. They perform very well and hold up. Myself, I prefer 12 pound for all my crankbait needs unless I'm bouncing crankbaits off wood in shallow water. Then I switch to a rod with 17 pound line. And no offence to BigBassin, but I also like the Trilene XL lines for cranks. Thats my go to line when I can't get my hands on the SilverThread. It's never let me down in 35 years of fishing.

Silver thread eh? I've never head much 'bout this stuff... I doubt wally world has it though, maybe we can go to gander?

Using silver thread AN40, 12 lb. thin and soft, working good for me.

Trilene 100% fluoro 10 or 12 pound test or berkley vanish.

Suffix Elite. Its the only mono you need, and it casts better than fluoro, especially with lures under 1/2 oz.

Given your line choices, sufix siege. Beaver's suggestion of Elite is a great choice, but it you need the abrasion resistance, use elite's sister, siege.

I use that old stand-by $3.00 walmart special. super thick 8 lb mono, that really feels and casts like its 35lb test mono..... (Joking)

Seen as i dont crank that often (shoreline fishing 99% of the time)

Ill throw baby T 1- and Bomber FAT "A" once in a great while, usually with mono, Trilene smoth cast is my basic "Go-To" *cause i hate backlashes*
i get them quite often casting lighter lures horizontally to the shoreline.

Thanks guys! I got a curve ball thrown at me and was not able to get anything.... didn't even go fishing! So I just put some 10lb big game one for time being. Since it's cheep I'll just take off when I get some line good for it!

Keep 'em coming though! btw, 10lb, or 12lb for deep, and medium cranks?

I use 10lb Mono (Trilene XT) at the moment....I dont do alot of deep cranking but for med-shallow cranks its working just fine.I dont think I'll be swapping anytime soon.

If you're using mono, 10lb. I think 10lb mono is a good general line for any crank, unless you want your shallow cranks to go super shallow, then go to a higher test.

If you're not fishing a lot of cover and need to go get down really deep, don't be afraid to run 8lb.

You can get SilverThread from Cabelas. Wally World doesn't sell it. Gander might, not sure. I know our BPS does not sell it.

I throw Trilene Big Game, 12lb-15lb for cranks normally. Great, tough, cheap line.

Trilene big game is a super solid line and it's been around. You won't be disappointed and know that it is cheap as in inexpensive vs. cheap as in lack of quality.

I don't like to use mono for crankin. I've had some bad experiences hooking fish in the past and when I switched to PLine CX Premium line my hookups went way up. I use the same pound test, though, usually 10lb and if I want to run deeper I'll put on 8lb.

I have used Silver Thread, Triline and Stren over the years. Last year, I started using Gamma in 8# test (actual break strength is closer to 12#, diameter is closer to Triline XL 10#). Best line I have ever used.

I have a friend who loves this stuff. He ties leaders with Gamma on his flyrods for smallies and carp and says it's tough line.

All I throw for cranks is 12lb. Berkley Big Game, the line is pretty tuff, and it casts nicely also...

Yo-Zuri Hybrid, 10#. Strong, abrasion resistant, fluro coated - best I've found.

10lb is definitely the best, Trilene XL Smooth Casting would be my pick for crankin' any size crank.

Try out Yo-Zuri Hybrid or P-Line CX in 10#, you'll be glad you did. It really isn't anymore expensive than regular mono either.

I switched to P-Line floroclear for pretty much all my mono duties-even replaced fluorocarbon with it. Tough, abrasion resistant and best of all it handles like a dream.
