Fish Finders
Me and my dad will be modifying our 14ft jon this winter, and we will be putting a fishfinder on it. Since we don't have any experience with these, we dont know what to look for. What brands and features do you think we should look for in the 400$ or less price range?
Oh, we fish mostly lakes and rivers for bass, but sometime reservoirs for stripers/catfish/bass. |

I like the Eagle series, especially for the money, look for a high resolution, high wattage, and some even have a side-finder transducer in that price range. I also like the Garmin series, but the Eagle poses a better value, without the Lowrance name attached

I don't personally like Hummingbird, I dont' think there is anything wrong with them, but I just prefer Eagle or Garmin.

For the money I would also check out Raymarine the DS series. The DS400 or i think the DS 600 is a killer unit. Just give it a look at a West Marine or online at West Marine.....
Eagles do make a nice unit for the money too! |

Hold out until about April. Last year I picked up a Lowarance LCX-15 on sale from Cabelas for $370. They also had the Navionics Gold chips on sale as well at that time.

How DARE you say that eagle is hummingbird. Thats a booboo buddy. Eagle and lowrance are the same NOT hummingbird. The Lowrance X52 is a GREAT finder. Ifn ya want I can get you a break on the Lowrance. The last one I got cost me $320....it has all the features you want plus it has the capabilities of GPS,Surface temp, and speed reading if you want to get the extra hookups. The surface temp can be had in the original price by getting the right transduce. The other hookups are just $40 apiece except for the GPS and I cant quoate you on that cause I dont remeber.

I bought an Eagle 320C for the bow this year and I have no complaints, great detail. I am working on getting an X52 from a guy who upgraded right now for the transom.
I fished out of my brother's canoe a few weeks ago in NC and he has an Eagle 480 portable, pretty nice with a suction cup mount for the transducer. |

Is that thing really $600? It was just laying around and I figured it would be better used in the canoe than collecting dust!
