When weighting the nose, he pegged a medium sized bullet weight touching the nose of the fluke.

Well Mac, I gotta disagree on that one. At times dead sticking them works great, and also as you mentioned a slow fall with long paused twitches will also work. However many, many, many times twitching it quickly even as a topwater bait has produced bass when the slower presentations won't. IMO it really gets the fish chasing a baitfish or wounded fish, and they have little time to inspect it for flaws. I just went out the last 2 Sundays, one of them was a horrible cold front we had, and still had the bass pounding them close to the top, if not on the top. I also worked them very slowly , and got little action on them. There are times when anything works, but slower isn't always the best choice for flukes IMHO, twitching them extremely fast on the top over vegetation or wood can and does elicit some serious poundings. And to boot, they rarely ever let go when hitting a fluke like that

Lizards how very true.... I always said there are two bites, a hunger bite, where the bass feeds out of opportunity, and hunger, and the second is a purely primal reaction strike. Most of the time for me the best presentation/tactic is slow and steady, but oddly enough, on slow days, for some unknown reason runnin and gunnin gets them worked up into a frenzy!!
