Float tube fishing

Does anyone fish from float tubes (belly boats)? I live in Southern Oklahoma and really enjoy fishing from mine, makes you fish a lot slower than fishing from boat. You work the area you are fishing more than just buzzing past in the boat.

I've always wanted to try that, but just never have done so. It seems like it would be an excellent way to fish a small lake with a fly rod, but I'm not sure I could make very good casts while sitting down in the water like that.

Do you sometimes find that your presence in the water spooks the bass?

What do you do if a water snake decides to join you on the float tube?

I used to pond fish from tubes alot as a young guy livin around Tulsa......Haven't done that in along time, but thinkin about it sure brings back some good fishin memories.......I never had a problem with snakes.

I'd love to get one, they'd be great for the ponds and stuff I fish! But I've gotta spend like 300 bucks to get a good one.

My old club used to have a separate tournament schedule for float tubes. I did it for about three tournaments and absolutely HATED it. Something about being soaked for 8 hours at a time didn't do anything for me. Not to mention all the slimy crud you'd be wallowing in for most of the day.

However, I did catch some quality fish that way. The other guys that fished that way just loved it!

I'm with you Cam. A buddy and I had them in high school, we fished them pretty hard for a couple of summers. It was fun but I don't have any interest in sitting in the water for hours now or driving home soaking wet and nasty.

I did get some up close looks at snakes as they swam toward me but never anything serious.

I have owned two of them and it is one of my favorite ways to fish. I wear chest high waders so I stay dry through the whole event. The only real problem is when nature calls. You have to account for that way in advance.
I haven't had any run ins with snakes, but I have had a cat fish get my leg pretty good.
I haven't had any issues spooking fish with them. The biggest issue I have had are from boaters. Some of them take pleasure in creating the perfect storm for you.

Ill tell you what. It gets exciting when a 5lbr pulls your line right between your legs.

I have not had any issues with snakes, been tube fishing for about 30 years. See a few snakes and beavers but they don't bother you. I use waders when it gets cold and shorts in the summer. I have a bass boat, but if I just want to relax and really be quite I still fish from my tube.

I love fishing from my float tube. Fishing from a tube is relaxing, very productive and is a great way to get some exercise. Being so close to the water while fishing is a great experience and even better with a nice fish on.

I mostly fish smaller ponds and lakes here in Colorado and a float tube is perfect. I have fished in many types of tubes over the years and have enjoyed them all. Currently, I fish an Outcast Prowler tube and although it's a bit pricey - it does a great job under a variety of conditions.

Here is a nice Colorado bass caught from my tube yesterday.
