Default screwed again

well last weekend we fished a big money tourney here on grand. for the weeks leading up to the tourney we found a really good crankbait pattern that just got better as the water warmed. then right before the tounament a big cold front pushed through and really hurt our crankbait pattern.

well tomorrow i am fishing another tournament here on grand. as the temps got back to normal our crankbait pattern returned and we thought that we were really on our way to making a good showing. then a huge cold front passed through and dumped a bunch of sleet and snow on us today as well as some really cold rain. we pre-fished yesterday, when we put in it was 50 degrees, when we took out the temp was 35 degrees along with rain and 30 mph winds out of the north. i was suprised that our crankbait bite was still there, much weaker but still there. the water is really muddy so i am kinda hoping that the crankbait bite might hold on just long enough for us to catch 5 keepers. i figured that with the water temps in the upper 50's there would be some shallow fish that might just pull tight to some brush piles so we will probably use flipping and pitching as plans b c and d. i really hate to throw a shaky head but if we can find some clearer water i may throw that little rascal some too. anyways just wanted to rant a little about having the weather undo in one day what takes me a week to put together, i am due to catch a break anyday now.

You should fish a tournament a month ago and the bad weather will go back there!!! I bet the weather man is calling you to find out if your fishing or not, if you are bad weather -- if not good weather

GOOD LUCK TOMORROW

I've learned to predict bad weather on tournament weekends. Makes things easier to deal with when it does happen because I expect it. Also I think it helps when preparing or pre-fishing for the tournament. Makes me think about where are the fish going to be when the weather changes. When it doesn't, which happens too but rarely in the spring or fall, I enjoy the tournament more.

well there were some pretty good bags weighed in and then there were a lot of light bags as well as several guys who blanked. we weighed in right at 8lbs which put us somewhere mid pack. we had one keeper on a jerkbait early and i caught the other 2, including our biggest on a roughneck finesse jig. the jig fish were later in the day after the sun came out and warmed the water a few degrees, they came out of very shallow water on pea gravel banks. they are wanting to make babies so bad it isn't funny. speaking of not funny, the place where i caught my 2 keepers was loaded with fish i caught my 2 keepers on dang near back to back cast. i was wanting to fish it out really hard but there was someone's dang dog that was running a long the bank as we would go down it and chase our baits when we made a cast. i buzzed a jig by his "boy parts" a few times and thought that if i could just clip him with the hook it would get rid of him. turns out i never connected and he muddied up the spot on no time at all. really pisses me off because we were getting bit pretty good there and didn't have much time left.

Sounds like a pretty tough day. Next time you see that dog, try a 2-oz casting plug to the head...that'll teach him.

You know what magic Mo lure will solve that problem. Just have it tied & ready to go. I was on my new fishing yak floating to missouri city on the mo that sunday when it all started melting. As it got warmer my fishing got better. Thanks to the Rago Sewer mouse. 3 cats & 4 hybrids later that is.

actually the jig was the deal that day it just took me too long to figure the bite out. with a little over an hour left i caught 2 good keepers on a jig and missed a few other bites. we weighed in 8lbs and finished 23 out of 45 boats. all in all it wasn't too bad, we kept ourselves in the hunt as far as points go and our next tourney is in a few weeks. if the weather stays like this it could be a real slugfest.

Just kidding, C-Rig. Better luck next time.

We get another cold front come threw like that again. Have the suspended rogue ready to go. It sounds like that should of been the bait you needed.

yeah no kidding, i threw a jig quite a bit early on in the day but the bite was just a little different than i expected. basically like i said in another post, the bad weather effected us more than the fish and they were exactly where i would have expected to find them in good weather. atleast late in the day anyways after they moved up.

It's a bait i don't like much but it produces fish around here when it gets cold. It's no diffrent on Pome De Terre with the muskey. When that happens i break out the big weighted Suicks. It's not just bass. For som reason fish in this state just like a big stick bait.
