Default Rat-L-Trap hooks

Hey guys, I'm new. --

Hate the hooks that rat-l-traps come with! What brand and size do you like to replace them with?

I keep the same size hooks. I've used VMC, Eagle Claw, Owner, Gamakatsu, maybe others. As long as the hooks are sharp, I never had any particular brand preference.

What I don't understand is why rat-l-trap doesn't suck it up and make thier baits with better hooks. I mean no one in thier right mind would fish with the original hooks on those things.

RyanO, I agree. The Rat'L Trap hooks are for the trash. I usually replace mine w/ Gamakatsus. I go w/ size 4s on the front and rear.

Because they have little incentive to change. We keep buying them at a rate that keeps them near the top of the list of bestselling baits and not enough of us are switching to other brands and writing to the company with our complaints.

Maybe rattle trap and the hook companies gotta thing going on. They sell good baits with crappy hooks and the other doesnt sell baits ...just hooks.

Matzuo bleeding trebles, are the only thing I've tried, but everything that even nibbles, gets latched on. Any chemically sharpened should work.

Save some money and sharpen the original hooks or buy Eagle Claw hooks.

it would be oh so much easier if they could actually start off with better hooks... petition, anyone?

but seriously, i tried using a rotary tool to sharpen those hooks... burned away half the hook with a little touch.

just use a file...works for me...may not be as good as a chemical sharpener but better than dull hooks...
