Default chatterbaits

I have never used one of these but am thinking about stocking up on them now that they are going on sale. Would deff like to get yalls comments on this bait and whether it has lived up to the hype. Should i stock up on them or spend my money else where? Thanks guys.

well first off, any new bait that gets a lot of publicity for success in the bassmaster clasic like the chatterbait did will get soooo much hype it's almost impossible to "live up to it". however i do like the chatterbait, it works well for a lot of applications. i use it a lot around boat docks but it deffinatley isn't limited to that. i am sure more guys will chime in here shortly and give you more opinions.

It really depends on how much you mean when you say: stock up on them, I have a grand total of 2 ( very unsual for me ), caught a few fish and ocasionally fish them with variable results. I wouldn´t miss them if suddenly I would run out of chatterbaits.

By stocking up i mean picking up 5-6 in assorted colors and sizes to have. Any suggestions on good colors or is it like a spinnerbait...

I've had mixed results. Like anything, sometimes they work, sometimes not. Fishing them like a spinnerbait seems to produce best for me.

I also use them like a spinnerbait. They definitely draw strikes, but I can't say if they do that job better or worse than spinnerbaits or other lures.

I have had good success with the chatterbaits. However, I had my best success in early spring. One thing I would tell you is that there are many lure makers now making these baits. I have tried many of the different brands and I feel the original chatterbait has the best action of all of them. I too, use them like a slow moving spinnerbait, but you can use retrieves that make for unique actions made by the chatterbait. They will snag quite readily, so keep that in mind.

I caught 2 on a chatterbait last evening. I take the skirt off and replace it with a Zoom Fluke. Until I did that I never caught a fish on one. It does not catch slicks. The fluke blade combo has a real interesting action. Ky spotted bass and Smallmouth really eat them up. I have caught some largemouth but more spots and smallies. If you fish one check your knot real often. The action of the bait wears the knot. Fish2win

This is my first year in bass fishing, and I have a 4 of them (solid white, black/green, red/orange/yellow, and solid blue) and I switched to them from time to time and, even thou I'm new and not catching a lot, I didn't get any type or reaction or bit off them. So now I might try them when I have tried everything else.

Next when I go night fishing, I'll have to try them again to see if that work better at night.

I've fished em and have caught a grand total of 2 both of which came in muddy water. Stained water had many follow it back to the boat and nothing in clearer water.

Yeah, I'm thinking about grabbing one this Winter for Lake Hudson - a lake with 6" visibility. Hopefully the vibe will attract them Basser's...

They have there time and place. I am like JB they are doing VERY well for me now that the fall bite is into full swing. I took a white headed one and put a white and silver scale shirt on it and they are just knocking the crap outta it. I have also fished it like a jig with good results. Get good bites while really snapping it off the bottom and letting it flutter back.
