fishing small swimbaits

well,since fall's pretty much here,i'll be throwing lots of spinnerbaits and ribbontail plastic worms. i bought some of these in 3'' 1/8 ounce bluegill color a few years ago http://www.stormlures.com/products/l...ype=soft_lures
i need to know how to fish these,and how to set the hook with these baits. i will be using a 6' medium fast action spinning rod with 8lb rod.thanks!

You can set the hook like using a grub, a sweeping sideways motion or over head should work..I've seen guys either bumping swimbaits on the bottom on tv, or just casting it out and retreiving it like a grub or crankbait.

One killer way to fish a small swimbait, caught me a nice 7# and lost me one that went 12 easy, is to throw them outside schools of small bluegill and around points, coves and creek mouths. Throw it out and jig it.

I have some like that, but from powerbait, in a perch color. They have done nothing for me.

Good way to fish these baits is off bottom. The are to assimilate a bait fish feeding off bottom,where most bait fish will find cover. Little bounces will make this baits action tempting to any fish.

Second way is to throw it into shore and big bounces out into deep water eight foot arcs,you will usually get a hit on the downward fall.

good luck with these,I use them for ice fishing with great success.

i like storm swimbaits. they work good and are pretty cheap. i usually just jerk it back or give it a constant retrieve. va, are you talking about the berkley blade dance? i have that and ive caught crappie on it and bass in the perch color. i heard it works good for ice fishing just jigging it. might want to try that.

I use a Tsunami 3 inch Blue Gill, It is pure Crap IMO. Tail is too hard and you need to burn it to make it move. Save your money up for Mattlures or the Castiac swimbait. I really feel daring enough to buy the Strike King King Kong and Lucky Craft Real Claifornia Trout for one reservoir near me.

Yea, but You gotta out weigh the negatives at one point. This lake is deep clear, and has tons of big bass and trout.

ahh, my favorite bass bait. that same kind youve got there skeeter, has pulled out some lunkers around winter time for me. what works best for me is jigging it along the bottom.

I really like the Storm Wild eyez swimbaits that are typically used for striped bass and saltwater species. One, they are a heck of a lot cheaper than some of these $20+ single swimbaits on the market and two, they have a super realistic look and action.

Keep them away from brush, they will get hung up in a hurry, one BIG drawback IMO.

yeah,they dont have a weedguard, but the pond i usaully fish doesnt have but one laydown/trees in the water.

Yup, you'll be fishing on heavy tackle anyway, and a big musky is worth 20 bucks.

I have my Flippin Stick, shell throw 2 oz lures. before I get my Swimbait rod, I need a deep cranking stick.

I think the matt lures ones look best, and they are real swimbaits. The lucky craft, is just a jointed crankbait!
