New trolling motor
I just ordered a Motor Guide trolling motor from Wal Mart's web site. It was advertized as a 34 lb thruster. Price was $114 with tax and shipping included. When I went to the Motor Guide web site I couldn't find a 34 lb thrust motor anywhere. They list a 36 lb thruster. Do you suppose that's what I bought? Do you think it will push my 14' john boat around the back waters? I live on the Mississippi river.

My boat came with a 28 lb moter, broke that one, and got a 36 lb, and broke that one. Now I have a 50 lb one LOL. It's for a 16' Flat bottom aluminum boat, and the 28 lb worked fine. If it is a 34 lb thrust, which wouldn't surprise me. It's probably a Walmart only model. Just like the Bill Dance model was exclusive I beleive a couple of years ago. The moter will be fine, now if you want to fly, get a outboard LOL.

Probably a WalMart exclusive, and it ought to move your boat just fine. I'd get the battery from WalMart, too. I use everstarts on mine, mainly because no matter where I fish there is a WalMart close enough that if I have a problem I can change it out. It's nice to be able to run in at 5 AM and exchange a battery that quit holding a charge (and yes, I have done that )
Also, be sure to get a battery charger if you don't have one, and charge the battery as soon as you get off the lake-deep cycle batteries need to be charged ASAP, otherwise they will take a "set" and not take a full charge on down the road.
