Default GM Warranty ?

Talk about bad timeing ( possibly ) I just bought a 2007 Hummer H3 not a week ago. What about my warranty if I need to use it ? Will I still have one ? And with all the dealerships closing where will I have to take it ? Man , this is a messed up deal.

Cmorg...I think if they file Chapter 11 or Chapter 13, they usually transfer their warranties to the people who buy up their assets as part of the restructure. I think this is what GM is doing. I heard today someone is buying Hummer.

IF they were to file Chapter 7....um, yeah, you'd be totally screwed.

I was thinking , wow , I like the looks of that. And it got better gas milage than the GMC Envoy XL my family was driving. It had a good price , I got a good trade in value , it was 2 years newer than my envoy and it was still under warranty. Thats pretty much it. I like it. I really dont think it will have any problems , but you never know I guess.

I'll bet they'll still cover the warranty, but you'll have to pay the shipping and handling charges to China.

Seriously though, I thought the prez said the government was going to back the warranties?

Now that I think about it, are the military hummers going to be made by China now? I mean outsourceing is one thing, but should we be letting the chinnese make our military equipment? Assuming Hummer made the hummer for the military that is.

Don't remind bama.

Sad to see pontiac go, but apart from the firebird and GTO, I won't miss 'em. I do think someone is buying hummer, so they may honor your warranty.

Oh man, I hope you did to. It'd be a shame to lose Chevy to a foreign company.

I could be wrong , but I think chevy bought the hummer line , but I believe Humvee still makes the origional H1 for military use. I could be wrong here. I am not real happy about the chineese owning the hummer line since I own one now , but at least mine was made by chevy. I like it alot , its fun to drive.

Why would chevy buy Hummer. They're both already owned by GM.

2nd, your hummer was made by GM.

All I can find on the net is that they sold hummer to a chinnese company. Maybe they said they'll keep chevy and I missed that part. I deffinatly heard something about chevy. Seems like they'd be stupid to sell the chevy line, people wouldn't buy their cars anymore on general principle over that. I upset myself on that, had to edit my spelling three tmies on tihs post.

Ok , here come the nitpickers. I would like to rephrase , I think years ago gm bought the hummer line , but I think Humvee still makes the H1 Hummer for the military. I am not happy the chineese own the hummer line now , but at least mine was made by GM.

I like the Chevy Cobalt better. The G6 was ok at first, but then they ruined it. The G8 was nice though.

U sure that Chevy was sold? I thought that was one of the ones that would be kept under GM.

If I see something tonight while I make my internet news rounds I'll post.

No, not ceratin at all about chevrolete. I just heard the name, and then hummer sold to chiniese company. That's when I started paying attention. I could have easily missed something. But when you get down to basics, they already own us, all they have to do is forclose and we will be speaking mandrian. hehehe...

I believe that GM is getting rid of all brands except GMC, Chevy, and Buick. THis came from a very reliable source

An email I got from GM on the subject
Dear Robert Pressler,

As you may know, GM is using an expedited, court-supervised process to accelerate the reinvention of our company. At the core of that reinvention is a commitment that we will put the customer first in all that we do — starting with great cars, trucks and crossovers, and the best sales and service experience possible. We want to earn your trust in several ways, including:

GM Dealers — They are very much open for business and ready to meet your sales and service needs. And even though we are seeking buyers for our Saturn and Saab brands, have just announced the selection of a buyer for the HUMMER brand, and have decided to eventually phase out Pontiac, those dealerships also remain open and ready for service. The bottom line is service for GM vehicles will always be available through authorized GM retail and service facilities by GM-trained Goodwrench experts, with Genuine GM Parts on hand.

GM Vehicles — At this, the most important moment in the history of our company, our dedication to high-quality, fuel-efficient and outstanding-value vehicles has never been greater. Purchase a new GM product, and we stand behind it with a U.S. government-backed,1 comprehensive 100,000-Mile/5-Year Powertrain Limited Warranty.2 Combined with Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation Programs, it is the Best Coverage in America. As I said before, our GM dealerships are very much open for business, and banks and credit unions are lending and continue to offer some of the best rates available to qualified buyers. To find information about GM dealerships in your area, please visit GM.com/vehicles/dealer.

General Motors — For over 100 years, GM has fueled America's passion for the automobile. Propelled by the spirit and commitment of our people, we will become the New GM, a company that makes Americans proud, and one that can compete successfully with anyone in the world. All of us at GM are confident that we will emerge a leaner, stronger company for you, offering the most compelling vehicles possible from our Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brands.

Thank you for your interest in our GM vehicles. As we move forward, I invite you to stay up to date on our promising new future by visiting GMreinvention.com.

Sincerely,

Troy A. Clarke
Group Vice President
President, GM North America

1) Government-backed warranty for GM vehicles purchased from March 30 – July 31, 2009.

2) Whichever comes first. See dealer for limited warranty details. Excludes Saab.
