Baitcaster rejoicing
In the For What It's Worth department- Tried Robbie R's suggestions today regarding baitcaster tuning and they work. I've always had trouble dialing those puppies in and his tips made it a lot easier. Thanks, man! The reels are doing what nature intended them to do. Finally...

I am glad it helped.
It makes a huge difference when they are properly tuned. I'll post this link just in case anyone else might be having problems. http://www.bassfishin.com/bassfishin...ad.php?t=16022

Can someone show a picture of what knob is what on a baitcaster? My friend adjusted mine but if I want to tweak it, I don't know what knob is what. I have an Abu Garcia SilverMax.

fishn, it is the little knob on the same side of the reel and the handle and drag star. it probably abou tthe size of a dime. And remember, moving this just a little can do a lot, so adjust in VERY VERY small increments.

So what is the dial on the other side? There is a max setting but no numbers.

I guess what I am asking is what are you guys calling each knob and what does each do? I read Robbie's suggestions but I don't know what knob he is calling the magnetic adjuster and such.

the knob on the other side is exactly what bb said. and it SHOULD have numbers (mine does) from 1 to 10, or 0 to 10, or something similiar. if not, sorry.

I think I finally understand what I need to do to adjust my baitcaster. From the two threads on this board, I think I can figure it out. My problem was that I didn't ask my buddy what he was doing when he adjusted it the first time. I will see him this weekend during our fishing/camping trip. I plan on messing with it using the advice I read on this board and then get his advice as well. I think I need to sacrifice distance at fist to prevent backlash until I get accustomed to adjusting it for each of my lures. I would like to get to the point where I can perminently make it my Carolina rig setup. That way I will set it up with a "perminent" weight, bead, and swivel. I won't have to adjust it much each time I go fishing as long as I keep the plastic lures the same weight. I also read somewhere that as the line gets wet, you have to make some tweaks to the knobs, but these will be very small.
Not that you guys care too much, but I will report on my progress this weekend, hopefully showing a picture of my first bass over 2 lbs. |

nothing wrong with a shakespere reel man i gave one that i had laying around to my dad and he loves it i threw it a few times last time we fished together and it wasn't bad . a big part of life is being happy with what you got , it might not be the best but it works and will catch fish .

Sorry if my directions were not too clear.
If your magnetic dial does not have numbers, just set it at half way in between one side or the other. I know this method works because several of my reels are old (like me) and the numbers are worn off......... Robbie R.
