Default Is AT&T going on strike

The union voted yes to strike if neccessary.Cant believe that company reporting the profits they did last year is trying to take retirement benefits away.

That is the economy that we live in right now. They may not be taking in the profits now that they reported from last year. I think a lot of companies have been reeling from the economy staying flat (in the horrible) and not improving at all, are trying to make up for the issues that they are having.

A strike will make things much worse for their employees, the business and the country.

I just don't get a union, nor do I think I ever want to witness one.

there was a time when the unios were a good thing bubba. unions did a lot of good for the common man. but as time has gone on, they became more and more unjust. and the companies didn't do much better either. i worked for a union on a few jobs. some were good, some bad. but i said it on another thread, it has to come to US workers taking pride in our performance and quaility before we can ask for more money and benifits now i think. i could go on and on about this. but i won't.....for now anyway.

I'll have to look for it Bama. I feel if GM or Chrysler put an add in the the paper for jobs at say $30/hr (I know they were making more to install radio knobs). The south would empty. It just looks like another greedy group trying to make a bunch for nothing. Companies should give their employees a decent wage, insurance and 401K or other like retirement options and they would have loyal employees. But seems like no one is ever happy with what they have, and gotta have more. Sorry for the thread hiest Zara. Just ranting I guess, and I might have made myself look stupid.

The problems arise not from the existance of collective bargaining, but the methods allowed by unions to assemble, develop and then exclude competition from workers who would not want to be in a union.

It works just like any system of checks and balances.

You have free unions which keep business in check, and scabs which keep the unions in check. Those scabs, who I define as anyone who would work for the same company for less, keep the unions from holding business hostage. Without them, you get 50$ hr labor. It becomes extortion and not bargaining.
